Chaplains provide spiritual care to patients, families and caregivers, fostering spiritual resources for healing. Chaplains may pray with patients that received a recent diagnosis or before they head to surgery, visit Labor and Delivery when a mom delivers a stillborn baby or the mom miscarries or provide support to our veteran patients. Spiritual care is a component of healing, so meeting others where they are and helping them during troubled waters is a vital part of a Chaplain’s role.
A PRN caregiver in this position works an average of 20-30 hours per week between 8:00AM – 4:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide education and consultation for physicians, nurses and other caregivers.
Provide spiritual care and counseling for patients, families and caregivers of all faith groups, ages and conditions.
Foster spiritual resources for healing.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Completion of at least four units of Clinical Pastoral Education
One year of ministry experience
OR Bachelor’s degree, three years of ministry experience, satisfactory completion of one or two units of Clinical Pastoral Education and the expectation to get four CPEs within two years of hire may substitute the education and/or experience requirements
Certification as an Association of Clinical Pastor Education (ACPE educator) by a certifying organization or eligibility within two years
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master’s degree of Divinity or equivalent
Current or former member of the U.S. Armed Forces
Passion to work in a hospital
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to climb stairs, pull, push, and facilitate movement of the patient.
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment:
