Provides spiritual care and/or counseling to patients, family members, Associates, Medical Staff, and guests associated with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. Provides spiritual care by seeking to understand the relationship between faith, illness, and the feelings and thoughts that motivate healthy and meaningful use of each person's beliefs and attitudes. In keeping with this primary purpose, interprets the function of his/her role to other system personnel by word and action, to utilize available community resources for the extension of this ministry, and is an educational and consultative resource to Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and the broader Mid-South community. A Brief Overview
Provides spiritual care and/or counseling to patients, family members, Associates, Medical Staff, and guests associated with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. Provides spiritual care by seeking to understand the relationship between faith, illness, and the feelings and thoughts that motivate healthy and meaningful use of each person's beliefs and attitudes. What you will do

  • Provides pastoral care and/or counseling to patients, family members and visitors.
  • Provides pastoral care and/or counseling to Associates and Medical Staff.
  • Contributes to the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program.
  • Provides educational resources for area churches, clergy and community organizations.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.


Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Divinity
  • Master's Degree Theology
  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education

      Experience Qualifications

      • 3-5 years Hospital Chaplain

      Skills and Abilities

      • Skill and proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles, and professional techniques in the field of chaplaincy.
      • Ability to listen, understand, and minister to the specific spiritual needs of persons in crisis.
      • Knowledge of community clergy relationships, sacramental ministry, and pastoral roles as acquired through three years experience in local church ministry.
      • Functional knowledge of the religious principles of major faiths.
      • Ability to work effectively with persons of diverse religious, cultural, and racial backgrounds.

      Licenses and Certifications

      • Board Certified Chaplain - IC - Board of Chaplaincy Certification, Incorporated Commission
      • Board Certified Catholic Chaplain - National Association of Catholic Chaplains
      • Board Certified Jewish Chaplain - National Association of Jewish Chaplains

      Supervision Provided by this Position

      • Lead responsibilities may be assigned to this position as designated by the Director of the Spiritual Care Department, Mission Integration Division.

      Physical Demands

      • Position requires regular on-call responsibility.
      • Possible exposure to body fluids as well as hazardous and poisonous materials.
      • Ability to react in emergency situations.
      • Occasional travel to other facilities.
      • Possible exposure to infectious diseases.
      • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
      • Must have good balance and coordination.
      • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
      • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
      • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
