Spiritual Care & Mission IntegrationOverview of Position:
The Chaplain ministers, as members of the interdisciplinary team, providing spiritual support, counsel and advocacy for patients, family members and staff. They provide instruction related to Advanced Directives, ethics, issues of spirituality and religion, and bereavement. Chaplains are professionally prepared to provide spiritual care to a diverse population in alignment with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Provides professional spiritual care to patients, visitors, and staff using evidence-based assessments and interventions.
2. Demonstrates skill in communicating effectively through active listening and responding.
3. Recognizes and supports religious, spiritual and cultural diversity.
4. Actively participates in the self-evaluation process.
5. Demonstrates a working knowledge of crisis intervention theory.
6. Utilizes knowledge of Advanced Directives to educate, assist and support customers in ethical decision-making process.
7. Exhibits skills as an advocate, negotiator, counselor, facilitator of family conferences.
8. Demonstrates the willingness and ability to work with all faith group leaders and lay representatives.
9. Consistently demonstrates a team approach within the department and works well as interdisciplinary team members to maintain continuum of care.
10. Is alert to and facilitates resolving ethical issues.
11. Demonstrates competence in age-specific patient care as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master’s degree in Divinity or related field required.
2. Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). Must be recognized by the credentialing body, which will certify the chaplain.
3. Certified or eligible for certification to be a board-certified chaplain within two years of employment. Chaplains may be certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains, or the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care.
4. Valid Ohio driver's license with proof of liability insurance.
5. Ability to articulate a pastoral theology that is both contemporary and functional for the population we serve.
6. Ability to remain non-anxious, nonjudgmental, and to handle stress associated with crisis intervention.
7. Upholds the values, ethics, and mission of the chaplain’s credentialing body and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
8. Maintains ordination/commission with and/or endorsement by an appropriate religious body.
9. Basic computer skills adequate for the tasks.
