Overview:

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Surgical Technologist for a Full-Time rotating shift (36 hour) position in Suffolk, VA!

Must be located within 30 minutes of facility for call purposes.

Sign on bonus of up to $15,000 available for qualified candidates

Hours and Call: on-call weekend rotations every 8th weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 24 hour), rotating weekday overnight call, and one holiday per year. Surgical Services offers flexible scheduling options such as 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts to accommodate work-life balance.

Sentara Obici Hospital is a recognized Primary Stroke Center and Magnet hospital, with an average of 5,000 cases per year. The 40-person team supports seven operating rooms, and performs a diverse range of procedures including general, ortho, podiatry, vascular, GYN, spine, and plastics, utilizing advanced systems like DaVinci robotic technology. The team, comprising RNs, surgical assistants, surgical technologists and OR techs, works across Obici and Bell Harbor hospitals, with occasional float to obstetrics as needed. The Surgical Technologist ensures that the operating room is properly prepared with the necessary instruments and equipment and assists the surgical team throughout the procedure by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The role involves maintaining patient safety and ensuring that the surgical environment is organized, clean, and sterile. The Surgical Technologist assists in applying dressings, securing surgical drapes and transferring patients to recovery areas. Adheres to infection control protocols and sterile techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety. Works closely with the surgical team to ensure smooth and effective procedures.

Education

  • TS – Trade School Graduate – Surgical Technologist (Required)

  • Students in the process of completing a Surgical Technologist Program may be considered.

Certification/Licensure

  • Licensed Surgical Technologist – Virginia (Required)

  • One of the following Certifications Required: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Certifications - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR Tech in Surgery TS-C - Certification - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) Required

Experience

  • Operating room experience (preferred)

  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and patient safety protocols.

  • Strong communication skills with providers and surgical staff required.
