Summary :

Working within the State of Wisconsin scope of practice, the Certified Substance Abuse Counselor provides treatment to patients with a substance use disorder.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assesses, diagnoses, and recommends treatment using DSM 5 and placement criteria to ensure patient’s needs are met.

  • Works collaboratively with the patient to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses the needs of the patient, desired outcomes, and agreed upon plan of care.

  • Monitors patient progress by utilizing evidence-based interventions and makes changes to the therapeutic approach based on patient’s response to treatment.

  • Utilizes facilitation skills including group and individual therapy to meet patient’s needs.

  • Maintains accurate patient records and documentation to comply with regulation and ThedaCare policies and procedures.

  • Collaborates with multiple disciplines to effectively and efficiently provide patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Understands discipline outside of recovery services and encourages their involvement in the patient plan of care.

  • Demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to cultural, environmental, and social factors that might impact the patient and treatment experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in substance abuse through an accredited program

  • Certified by the State of Wisconsin as a Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) or Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance

  • Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Climate controlled office setting with daily movement throughout the facility

  • Interaction with department members and other healthcare providers
