Hours Per Week: 40 hrs
Schedule: 3pm - 11:30pm (Weekend rotation)
SUMMARY
The Sterile Processing-Lead is responsible for maintaining high standards for decontamination, assembly, inspecting, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment for Surgical Services and all Ancillary Departments. This includes working in conjunction with Operating Room team leaders preparing, organizing and maintaining instrument trays and equipment. Maintaining accurate sterilization records and Quality Improvement data. Provide education and training to new employees, as well as education for current employees. Represents RRH in a positive, professional manner, with a commitment to customer service.
Essential Responsibilities:
Decontamination: Follows Standard Precautions by wearing the appropriate protective attire while working in the Decontamination area. Decontaminates surgical instruments and other medical equipment as needed by keeping a continuous flow of equipment moving through the process. Utilizes appropriate cleaning detergents and agents by reading directions and MSDS sheets.
Assembly: Inspects all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing and/or testing the instruments before assembly. Assembles surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings. Wraps or pouches items according to size and type of instrument or equipment.
Sterilization: Challenges the sterilization process by using internal, external and biological monitoring systems appropriately. Monitors, reads, documents, and interprets all parameters for all types of sterilizers to insure proper function. (Steam and Sterrad) Sterilizes instruments and surgical trays by following prescribed policies and procedures upon request. Process or produce sterile items in comparison to others
Distribution / Case Carts: Distributes all sterile and non-sterile supplies and medical equipment upon request or case cart requisition. Orders and puts away supplies & linens upon request as needed.
Other essential department responsibilities. Understands and utilizes manual methods and/or computers for generating data and requisitioning goods. Perform area cleaning by sanitizing workstation at the end of each shift.
Answers phone in professional, helpful manner by maintaining communication skills appropriate in a professional setting. Maintains system and department competencies by attending department meetings, in-services, and annual updates. Maintains Hospital and departmental policies and procedures by reviewing the manuals. Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested in a pleasant manner.
May assume “in-charge” responsibilities as designated by the Manager, Sterile Processing.
Participates in formulating procedures and demonstrating current, new or revised procedures to Sterile Processing Technicians as assigned.
Provide orientation of CS competencies to new employees.
Assist Central Supply Manager in preparation and presentation of in-service training to Sterile Processing Technicians on a regular basis.
Assist Central Supply Manager in data collection and evaluation for Quality Improvement.
Participates in the evaluation of work performance of the Sterile Processing Technician.

Licensure/Certification:
Experience/Skills/Abilities: Previous experience in Sterile Processing operations preferred. 2-5 years of progressively responsible Sterile Processing experience to be proficient in all phases of assigned duties. Experience in an Operating Room setting preferred.
Central Service Technician certification required within 18 months of hire if does not meet grand-fathering requirements.
Sterile Processing certification required within 18 months after employment if Hard to Fill clause is utilized

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
