About you and this role:

This role is capable of providing leadership to major process developments, new commercialization efforts, and/or global projects that are particularly unique to Dow in terms of size, technology or complexity (those of extremely high impact that include little or no MET). Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. Leads technical problem solving within a specific technology area to deliver value for Dow, often leading a discrete area of expertise. At this level, is recognized globally, leverages technical know-how across regions, and develops/implements best practices within an area of expertise - often resolving problems which have no clear precedent. Strong technical knowledge and skills across a range of the discipline’s technology areas. Strong technical leadership skills: lead by influence, negotiation skills, assertiveness, flexible and adaptable to changing business needs. In the project lead capacity, has a solid understanding of the discipline's technical fundamentals and GPM, the discipline work process and its interdependencies, demonstrates leadership and delivers engineering expertise to the execution of Dow’s capital and expense projects. At this level, coordinates the process engineering activities of some of the largest most complex projects globally within Dow, with direct impact on the business strategy. This role coordinates the deliverables and will direct and administer discipline activities with external contractors/suppliers as required. In addition, this role coordinates with the global technical experts to ensure MET is applied and/or variances employed where value can be leveraged. Experience in all project phases (Definition, Design, Procurement, Construction, and Start Up) is required. Has experience leading teams and in managing the discipline’s deliverables. Requires specialized depth and breadth of expertise within the job discipline or field.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides highly specialized technical support and consultation for project teams, operations, maintenance, and technology centers.
  • Owns MET for respective area(s) of expertise.
  • Leads the global resource networks or expertise areas for their respective area of expertise.
  • Represents Dow within industry and professional societies, as needed, and in doing so provides input to direction of industry practices and/or standards.
  • Identifies technical problems and appropriately engages the business and functional technology centers and SME network to resolve.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of engineering, manufacturing or related experience.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Your Skills:

  • Critical Thinking: Critical thinking is the evaluation of facts to form a judgment by using the rational, data-based analysis of factual evidence.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to apply basic chemistry and knowledge to assist in troubleshooting quality issues.  Understanding of basic process technology: pumps, instrumentation, distillation, etc.
  • Accountability: Accountability is the acknowledgment and assumption of responsibility for actions, products, decisions, and policies including the administration, governance, and implementation within the scope of the role.
  • Process Simulation: Process simulation is used for the design, development, analysis, and optimization of technical processes such as: chemical plants, chemical processes, environmental systems, power stations, complex manufacturing operations, biological processes, and similar technical functions.
  • Engineering Design Process: The engineering design process is a series of steps that engineers follow to come up with a solution to a problem. Many times the solution involves designing a product (like a machine or computer code) that meets certain criteria and/or accomplishes a certain task.
  • Technical Communication: Technical communication is a means to convey scientific, engineering, or other technical information. Individuals in a variety of contexts and with varied professional credentials engage in technical communication.
