Position Summary
The CDL Recruiter is responsible for developing and executing recruiting strategies that attract top‑tier CDL‑A drivers, Pilot/Escort drivers, and transportation talent to support operational capacity across Clayton Connect. This role requires strong relationship‑building, an understanding of transportation workforce dynamics, and the ability to manage high‑volume, fast‑paced recruiting needs. The CDL serves as a critical member of the Team Member Experience (TMX) department, contributing to onboarding, training initiatives, and enhancing the overall driver experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, facilitate, and manage all phases of the CDL and Pilot/Escort driver recruiting process, from sourcing to onboarding.
- Use recruiting platforms, transportation databases, job boards, Tenstreet, and other tools to attract qualified CDL talent.
- Identify and proactively source candidates through internal ATS systems, industry job boards, career fairs, and targeted outreach strategies.
- Conduct CDL‑specific pre‑screen interviews to validate experience, safety record, MVR considerations, physical requirements, and alignment with role expectations.
- Facilitate behavioral‑based interviews that assess cultural values, safety focus, quality, and professionalism.
- Manage a high volume pipeline of CDL and Pilot candidates while maintaining strong communication, follow‑up, and attention to detail.
- Build meaningful relationships with drivers, understanding their motivators, needs, and career goals to support informed hiring decisions.
- Communicate job expectations clearly, including physical demands, scheduling requirements, overnight travel, equipment handling, and job realities.
- Serve as the liaison during offer negotiation and onboarding, ensuring a smooth candidate experience.
- Coordinate interviews with Terminal Managers and participate in hiring decisions.
- Schedule and guide candidates through pre‑employment requirements including MVR, background screens, drug testing, and P/EVO certifications.
- Create and deliver verbal and written job offers.
- Support new hire orientation, including presenting materials to groups of drivers and escorting them through onboarding tasks.
- Assist in training initiatives and support the Career Pathway Program as needed.
- Draft accurate job descriptions, hiring criteria, and driver‑specific expectations.
- Track recruiting metrics and maintain high-quality documentation in ATS and HRIS systems.
- Leverage social media and digital campaigns to promote CDL career opportunities.
- Maintain strong understanding of transportation operations, logistics workflows, and Clayton Connect’s service network.
- Ensure compliance with DOT standards, employment laws, and internal policies.
- Support driver experience initiatives and day‑to‑day programs that improve retention and engagement.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Logistics, or related field preferred.
- 2–4 years of full‑cycle CDL recruiting experience strongly preferred; high‑volume transportation recruiting experience is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, ATS platforms, and recruiting software (e.g., Tenstreet).
- Ability to manage multiple recruiting pipelines simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong understanding of CDL job requirements, DOT regulations, and transportation operations.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to set expectations clearly and build trust.
- Experience recruiting in a manufacturing, logistics, or transportation environment preferred.
- High attention to detail, excellent organization, and strong follow‑through.
- Demonstrated professional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Demands
- Ability to use computer and office equipment regularly (phone, printer, copier, etc.).
- Must be able to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via email.
- Work is primarily performed in an on-site, temperature‑controlled office.
- Position involves primarily sitting/standing and occasional travel to terminals or job events.
Travel Requirements
- As needed (career fairs, terminal visits, industry events).
