Job Summary

Works collaboratively with CDI Leadership and coordinates educational opportunities to foster team growth and development. Conducts frequent reviews of CDS work performance to ensure quality of work and provides education and assistance to the CDI team. Actively participates in the Hospital’s Revenue Cycle performance improvement initiatives. Reports to Director of Clinical Documentation Integrity and Coding Quality.

Essential Functions

  • Assesses educational activities of CDS to meet objectives of program.
  • Performs frequent CDS reviews in collaboration with the CDI Manager to assess quality of work performed.
  • Provides additional education and guidance to staff when minimum levels are not met.
  • Guides, supports and sponsors the CDI Program efforts. Supports CDI team members to ensure patient classification and DRG assignment are supported by physician documentation and in compliance with rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Communicates and informs CDI Leadership of status of program and identifies any obstacles in meeting goals and objectives.
  • Collaborates to develop strategies and provides suggestions to ensure program success. Collaborates with Coding Quality and CDI to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Educates health team colleagues about coding and data management including role responsibilities, tools, methodologies, and anticipated outcomes.
  • Partners with HIM and Revenue Cycle professionals in hospital initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate’s degree with equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years nursing experience required, or minimum 5 years coding experience required with minimum of 2 years CDI experience. 
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in State of Michigan, RHIT or RHIA. CCDS or CDIP are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrates dynamic personality, and comfort with public speaking and interacting with medical staff and administration.  Must have strong public speaking skills, and motivation to promote the program.  Ability to build relationships, negotiate process and outcomes and influence behaviors.  Must be computer literate with the ability to interpret statistical reports. Possess the ability and willingness to accept autonomy with responsibility, and commitment to collaborative practice.
