Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Environmental Technician IV to join our team! In this role you will support various aspects of environmental compliance monitoring and investigations at the Faro Mine Remediation Project (FMRP).  

This role will report to Environmental Manager. This role is a rotational position (2 weeks on & 2 weeks off), 10 hours per day.  

This position includes membership in the United Steelworkers Local 925. The hourly wage for this position is $34.00 

The FMRP, located in Faro, Yukon, is one of the largest and most complex abandoned mine remediation projects in Canada. Faro is located 4 hours northeast of Whitehorse, Yukon, and currently has a population of approximately 350 people. Furnished housing will be provided, you will be required to prepare your own meals during the shift on Site.  Flights to Whitehorse, travel between Whitehorse and Faro, and daily transportation to and from the Mine Site to Faro will be provided.  

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Execute the core field tasks under supervision of Environmental Manager, including discharge water sampling, geotechnical inspections and elevation survey for water levels in ponds and pits;  

  • Execute the specialized field tasks under supervision of Environmental Manager, including waste management compliance inspection, air quality monitoring (occupational and ambient air monitoring), emergency spill response, erosion and sediment control inspection, contaminated site investigation (i.e. soil, groundwater and surface water sampling), environmental compliance monitoring for construction projects;  

  • Report any outstanding observations / findings from the field to Environmental Manager;  

  • Prepare fieldnotes, checklists, observation logs, and photo logs for review;  

  • Assist with preparing / compiling technical reports including summarizing the core and specialized tasks;  

  • Use appropriate equipment to complete various monitoring tasks;  

  • Follow internal QA/QC programs 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Environmental Manager.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Post secondary education (degree or technologist diploma) in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, Biology, Geotechnical Engineering, Forestry, Hydrogeology, or related fields. Candidates with considerable training and experience may be equally considered. 

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience with executing core tasks as mentioned above is required, and remote mine site field work experience preferred;  

  • Ability to prepare field notes and paperwork is required, and ability to prepare technical reports;  

  • Experience with database management (i.e. EQuIS) is an asset 

  • Effective communication skill is a must, both verbally and written;  

  • Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.);  

  • Self-motivated, and ability to work independently and as part of a team;  

  • A strong sense of Health and Safety, and attention to detail is required; 

  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg;  

  • Ability to comfortably work outdoors in various weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, extreme cold, etc. is a must; 

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license; and 

  • Experience with operating equipment including ATV’s, snowmobile, and power boats is an asset.
