About the Job:

Reporting to the Senior Category Manager, based in Changzhou,China, this position plays a key role in executing our strategies with responsibility for sourcing direct parts in assigned categories. Categories for this position will include steel, castings, forgings, aluminum, plastics, and fabrications. You will be asked to utilize Terex’s global leverage to ensure our manufacturing sites achieve the best value in cost, quality, reliability, service, and support. 

A truly strategic role, the category manager role goes beyond reducing cost and identifying suppliers. The role supports supplier development, inventory management, tariff mitigation strategy, internal make cost analysis, chargeback negotiations, and manufacturing site startup / closure support. To do this effectively, this role will also co-ordinate cross functional relationships globally, including product development, engineering, materials management, local purchasing, operations, finance, and aftermarket.

Key Tasks

  • Develop and implement category strategies for:
    • Fabricated Parts (Steel, Aluminum, Specialty Products)
    • Raw Material (Steel, Aluminum, Plastics)
  • Utilize Terex’s eleven step Strategic Sourcing process to reduce total cost of ownership and increase overall value
  • Lead and participates in cross-functional projects
  • Manages relationships with key suppliers and negotiate company-wide contracts
  • Interface and act as the liaison between the Terex businesses and suppliers
  • Drive continuous improvement and business simplification efforts
  • Maintain conduct consistent with company policy, operating procedures, accepted practices and applicable laws

Required Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience in manufacturing industry, ideally a global company

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree with focus on procurement, supply chain, engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Design or quality background, with a desire to gain commercial experience OR Procurement or sourcing background, with focus on direct materials, ideally related to Metals
  • Experience working with global supply base in manufacturing industry.
  • Strong procurement and strategic sourcing background with focus on direct materials.
  • Understanding of Make versus Buy.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Ideal candidate is entrepreneurial and able to work with little guidance.
  • Excellent project management skills and used to work in global, cross-functional teams.
  • Proven supplier management and negotiation skills; able to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all involved parties.
  • Technical savvy and able to read technical drawings, specifications and applications.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude and excellent analytical skills plus high proficiency in MS Office products.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) 

Travel:

Must be willing and able to travel, including domestic and international (travel is estimated at 25% rising to 50% during periods of supplier assessment and selection).
