Shell Mobility represents the single largest customer-facing business in the group serving more than 30Mln mobility and over 250,000 Fleet customers per day through 500,000 service champions in over 44,000 sites across 70+ countries. What’s the role
The Category Manager (Fresh F&B) will play a critical role in making Shell Network a food destination for drivers. This is achieved through building a creditable and attractive offers from Shell Cafe and its partners. As Shell Cafe is newly launched in Singapore, building the brand is one of the priorities for the next few years.
What you’ll be doing
The category manager’s primary role is to drive the assigned category’s growth and to function as a subject matter expert. As such the starting point for the role is a clear and tangible direction for the category. This will include:
Planning and Analysis: Set category role and fit within overall business strategy with a strong focus on positioning Shell Café as a distinctive and attractive brand in the market. Develop a category plan and establish measurable objectives for the category based on macro and consumer behaviors. Category manager is responsible for delivering category targets. The category manager is also responsible for adjusting the category strategy & tactic to meet category targets, while facilitating implementation across network.
Financial Accountability: The category manager is accountable for analysing sales, margins, inventory and purchasing decisions in order to accurately establish and manage profitability for the category. Financial measurements may include inventory turnover, return on inventory, gross margins, sales and return on investment. Data availability may vary depending on sophistication of business model.
Product Management: The category manager is responsible for jointly developing and rolling out the merchandizing plan for stores. This will entail developing the product range and planograms for every stations. The role will also drive product development initiatives that enhance Shell Café’s attractiveness and differentiation in the fresh food and beverage space
Supplier Management: The category manager is responsible for strategic supplier management, by leading the relationship. The category manager is expected to manage:
Partnering with suppliers to co-create and launch new products that strengthen Shell Café’s brand appeal
Purchase negotiations with supplier and determining the accompanying terms of trade. this includes driving and growing supplier income
Putting in place supplier evaluation processes to develop and grow the supplier partnership over time
Conduct regular business reviews for category performance and update leadership on key action items. Develop a continuous improvement program to drive consistent business performance
Marketing: Collaborate closely with the marketing team to develop and execute campaigns that elevate Shell Café’s brand visibility and desirability. Ensure all communication materials (POSMs, digital assets, in-store branding) meet high standards and reinforce Shell Café’s identity. Work with marketing to create compelling storytelling and promotional strategies that attract and retain customers.
Monitoring store execution: The category manager is expected to partner with sales team and support instore execution of customer offer, including setting up back-end store operations and execution of tactics at store level.
What you bring
3–5 years of relevant experience in Retail (Supermarket/Convenience store) and/or F&B sector experience, handling fresh categories (preferred)
Experience in Category Management, Brand Development, and Marketing & Communications strategies
Strong understanding and grasp of retail principles of buying, assortment planning, merchandising and retail store operations
Experience in developing menus and food offerings (fresh or ready-to-eat); with strong understanding of supply chain, cold storage, and food safety standards
Strong communication skills, with proven stakeholder management capabilities
