We are seeking a talented individual to join our Guy Carpenter’s Global Analytics and Advisory group at Marsh. This role will be based in Manila, Philippines. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

The primary responsibilities of this role include analyzing data to forecast the likelihood and potential impact of disasters such as tropical cyclones and earthquakes. You will utilize models and data to estimate potential losses and devise strategies for risk mitigation. The role encompasses risk assessment, strategy development to minimize disaster impacts, and effectively communicating findings to clients. This role will also incorporate factors such as climate change into their models to accurately reflect its influence on insurance portfolios. You will also employ catastrophe models that simulate various disaster scenarios to assess the hazard and vulnerability of insured properties.

What can you expect?

  • You will join a team of Catastrophe Advisors that use engineering and economic research to determine the impact various hazard scenarios (e.g., earthquake, flood, typhoon, etc.) will have on insurance companies’ property damage and resulting financial loss.
  • You will get to work alongside our top-tier professionals, acting as a client advisor in areas such as catastrophe risk management, underwriting support, live event impacts, and reinsurance decision-making.
  • You will work with state-of-the-art software, such as Alteryx and DataBricks
  • You will participate in a structured, robust training program covering a wide variety of skills including vendor models, the insurance industry, reinsurance, project management and public speaking.
  • You will be responsible for managing catastrophe modelling projects from beginning to end and will have the opportunity to advise a diverse group of clients and contribute to a wide range of innovative internal initiatives.

We will count on you to:

  • Organize client data, check data for reasonability, load data into predictive models, run the models, share insights with senior colleagues, and compile coherent and compelling narratives to help clients understand their degree of risk
  • Perform basic calculations and draw conclusions from client data to assess a range of modelled outcomes for clients in support of reinsurance transaction process
  • Conduct research on industry/regulatory developments that affect loss liabilities to determine the impact on clients
  • Keep teams updated on industry-specific and specialty related trends related to catastrophe risk management and reinsurance
  • Contribute to impactful and insightful discussions with clients on their reinsurance strategy
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with brokers/clients/reinsurers/colleagues, assist in promptly responding to client queries and concerns
  • Develop knowledge in certain region-based or peril-based areas of catastrophe risk management services through research or experience to advance professionally and gain recognition as an expert in the industry
  • Take part in or lead internal initiatives, offering ideas and feedback to improve outcomes as well as to help develop Guy Carpenter’s thought leadership and industry expertise.
  • Support / Mentor the leadership team in ensuring equitable experiences, strengthening inclusion, and promoting a culture of inclusivity and belonging that embraces the contributions of all team members

What you need to have: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative, natural sciences, or engineering field (applied mathematics, statistics, data science, computer science, meteorology, hydrology, seismology, or civil engineering) or equivalent professional experience — practical experience is as important as formal education.
  • Exposure to programming or coding in any language (Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, etc.); comfort manipulating and analyzing complex datasets is required.
  • Strong data analytics skills: interpret, extrapolate, and visualize complex data.
  • Curious and proactive mindset with the ability to take ownership of internal initiatives and research projects.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to translate technical analysis into clear insights for clients and brokers.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
