The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of the largest providers of homelessness services across the country. Our philosophy is that every person should be afforded dignity and respect and that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. We provide services and supports to adults, and families with accompanying children in the form of accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services.

 

The Role 

This position provides both practical assistance and emotional support to young people experiencing homelessness or crisis. You will help connect clients with appropriate community services and ensure the accommodation environment remains safe, secure, and well-maintained within a 24-hour setting. Working closely with the broader team, you will contribute to achieving positive outcomes for young people. 

 

How You Will Make an Impact 

As a Youth Support Worker, your key responsibilities include: 

  • Building strong, supportive relationships with clients while upholding respect, dignity, and confidentiality at all times. 

  • Collaborating effectively with all staff to ensure coordinated service delivery and successful program implementation. 

  • Planning, delivering, and evaluating life skills and other relevant programs for young people. 

  • Providing information and referral pathways to government, non-government, and community organisations as needed. 

  • Supporting clients to develop or reconnect with healthy family and social networks. 

  • Transporting clients safely using an organisation-provided vehicle. 

 

What You Will Bring 

  • A qualification in social work, youth work, community services, or a related discipline. 

  • Experience supporting young people who are homeless and/or in crisis within a Case Management Framework. 

  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse young people and those of various faiths. 

  • A valid driver’s licence. 

  • A current Working with Children Check (Blue Card). 

  • A current first aid certificate or the ability to obtain one promptly. 

  • The capability to manage unpredictable behaviour and situations, including those involving violence, homelessness-related challenges, substance use, and mental health concerns.
