Job Summary:
Under direction from the Cashier Manager, the incumbent works within the university Bursar office. Responsibilities include accounting for and processing deposits received in person, via phone, or through the mail.Job Description:
Receives payments for tuition and fees, miscellaneous items such as parking receipts, club receipts, application fees, etc.
Verifies amounts due against payment offered and makes change when necessary; issues receipts.
Utilizes credit card machines to process payments in the form of Visa, MasterCard and Discover when offered.
Balance Banner and Miscellaneous daily, comparing cashier, checks and credit card payments with computer listings.
Prepares deposits for review by cashier manager to be sent to the bank via Brinks.
Trains new personnel in Student Payment Services.
Serves as public-relations contact, provides information and assists with solving problems in person as well as over the phone.
Counting coins with coin counters, and rolling coins.
Other miscellaneous duties include opening and sorting mail along with payments, maintaining files, supervising student workers in absence of Cashier Manager.
Performs the duties of the Cashier Manager in the Cashier Manager’s absence.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimal Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. One (1) year (12 months) of experience comparable to the Cashier II of this series.
3. Any one or combination totaling one (1) year (12 months) from the categories below:
A. Coursework in any discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
Bachelor’s degree equals (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. work experience comparable to the Cashier II of this series.
Work Schedule:
This position follows a fixed weekly schedule:
Monday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Tuesday: 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Wednesday: 10:30 AM – 6:00 PM
Thursday: 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: NEIU Main Campus (5500 North St. Louis Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625)
Setting: Cashier III is an on campus position, not eligible for Hybrid or Remote work.
This position requires a background check.
Salary Range
$22.63/hour
