About the role
The Controllership Specialist (Cash Management) role is critical to safeguarding Nu’s liquidity, financial integrity, and operational resilience in Brazil. You will sit in the Cash Management Brazil team, within FINOPS (Financial Operations), responsible for managing our corporate bank accounts (excluding Central Bank accounts), including Brazilian entities and offshore holdings.
This is a highly hands-on, operations-driven position: you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of bank accounts (opening, maintenance, closure), cash positioning, and SOX controls, while also pushing automation and smart use of AI to make our processes more robust and efficient. You will be a key point of contact for internal teams and external banking partners, including in English-speaking forums.
You’ll be responsible for
- Managing global / multi-entity cash positions: Control the daily cash position across multiple entities and banks, ensuring a consolidated and reliable view of balances.
- Owning high-criticality payment operations: Execute and oversee high-value transfers, ensuring accuracy, adherence to cut-offs, and robust contingency plans.
- Leading bank statement reconciliations: Reconcile bank statements against internal systems, treating discrepancies with urgency and providing strong evidence for SOX and month-end close.
- Being the focal point for SOX controls on bank accounts: Maintain and continuously improve SOX controls for bank accounts (access rights, limits, opening/closing, periodic reviews), including approvals rules in banking portals.
- Managing the full lifecycle of bank accounts: Coordinate the opening, maintenance and closure of corporate bank accounts — including documentation, approvals and integrations — recognizing that each opening may take several months and requires operational discipline.
- Driving cash process automation: Lead initiatives to automate cash operations (bank integrations H2H/API, automated payments, liquidity dashboards and monitoring), in partnership with Engineering and other stakeholders.
- Supporting products and projects as Cash Management SME: Act as the Cash Management reference for new products and projects, ensuring liquidity, banking, and regulatory flows are designed correctly from day one.
- Investigating incidents and leading remediation: Lead investigations into incidents (settlement failures, balance mismatches, system outages) and coordinate structured action plans with partner teams.
- Mentoring more junior team members: Support analysts, interns and apprentices on critical routines, evidencing standards, and communication best practices with internal and external stakeholders.
- Using automation and AI in your day-to-day: Apply and champion practical uses of automation and AI in financial operations — from simple use cases (e.g., drafting, checks) to supporting more advanced workflows and analyses, while keeping the focus on robust operations rather than pure engineering.
We are looking for a person who has
Required qualifications
- Solid experience in operational finance routines, such as Accounts Payable, reconciliations, treasury, cash management or similar functions.
- Experience with multi-bank, multi-entity operations and large transactional volumes.
- Hands-on experience with financial ERPs (preferably SAP), bank integrations and bank statement reconciliation.
- Proven track record working with SOX or similar controls for bank accounts (account inventory, access management, approval rules, periodic reviews and documentation).
- Strong operational mindset and willingness to work on routine, sometimes bureaucratic activities (documentation, signatures, follow-ups) as the core of the role, not just projects.
- Advanced/Fluent English, with confidence to lead meetings and negotiations with global banking partners without support.
- Familiarity with automation and/or AI tools applied to financial processes, and an open, positive stance towards leveraging them in daily work.
- Strong analytical profile and rigorous attention to detail.
- Ability to organize and prioritize in a dynamic environment, with multiple stakeholders and deadlines.
- Proactivity to suggest and implement process and technology improvements.
Nice to have
- Experience in high-growth, transformation environments with strong automation agendas in finance operations.
- Experience with automation / workflow / BI tools (e.g., dashboards, workflow engines, low-code, etc.) applied to financial processes.
- Previous experience in financial services or banking / fintech, although this is not mandatory for the role.
