Job Summary: This position is located in the Carpentry Shop, Maintenance and Repair Section, Facilities Management Service under the supervision of the Maintenance and Repair Foreman. The Shop is responsible for the maintenance, alteration and repair of all walls, doors, windows, ceilings, and flooring surfaces throughout the Facility. The incumbent is assigned a wide variety of duties involving installation, modification, and repair. The incumbent also serves as the back-up locksmith.

Major Duties:

  • MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES In summary, the incumbent is responsible for preventive maintenance, repairs, installations, alterations, and renovations that fall under the umbrella of the carpentry shop. The Carpenter-Locksmith is responsible for operating a computerized system of records. The expectations require the employee(s) to perform various duties and responsibilities, some of them are listed at the following levels below: Carpentry WG-4607: Incumbent constructs, alters, maintains, and repairs buildings, doors, windows, structures, partitions, panels, shelving, work benches, furniture, acoustical ceiling systems, metal framed walls, ceilings, and soffits, gypsum wallboard, handrails, wall protection, and corner guards. Installs, replaces, and repairs flooring surfaces to include, but not be limited to, vinyl composite tile, vinyl plank, carpet, and sheet goods. Incumbent hangs items on walls using anchors, installs blocking and bracing as required. Works with metal studs, metal door frames, sheetrock and wood materials to include studs and plywood. They assemble equipment following the manufacturer's instructions. Locksmith WG-4804: The incumbent repairs, combinates, replaces, overhauls, modifies, tests, and installs locking devices typically found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, vaults, and other secured locations. They manufacture and duplicate keys and initiate the keying and combinating of locking mechanisms. These locksmith duties and lockouts are achieved by using various hand and power tools, torches, reshaping parts when necessary. The Carpenter-Locksmith is responsible for the Medical Center Locksmith Program including data entry and updating key information into space files. The incumbent is responsible for the training and development of Key Control Programs for all Key Control Representatives. The incumbent will conduct training on the Key Control System and the required Computerized System Records. The incumbent must work with people at all levels concerning the security of keying issues. The incumbent will establish and maintain the Key Control System for the Facilities Service department. Welding Worker WG-3703: Manufactures, repairs, modifies, rebuilds, and assembles various types of metal and alloy parts, systems, and structures via welding processes. Performs other related duties as assigned.
