Job Summary: This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Integrated Service Network 6 (VISN6), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network, Durham VA Medical Center (VAMC), within the Carpentry Section of the Facilities Management Service.

Major Duties:

  • Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the lock system and maintains all key codes and door hardware. Repairs and maintains automatic doors. Installs fire protection door closures on all smoke doors. Preforms general maintenance. Installs floor tile requiring material for adhesion. Repairs and replaces window guides and tapes and replaces different size window glass. Installs detention screens, acoustical ceiling suspension systems, metal stud walls, partitions and carpet. Constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
