Job Description:

Summary:

Career Development at the Kogod School of Business at American University supports undergraduate and graduate business students in their professional development. Front Desk Coordinators (FDCs) are student employees who serve as the first point of contact for all visitors to the office, including students, employers, alumni, faculty, and staff. FDCs provide essential administrative and customer service support in a fast-paced, student- and employer-facing environment.

These are paid positions, and hiring preference is given to students available for both the fall and spring semesters.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Staff the front desk during business hours (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday) on a scheduled basis.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the Kogod Career Development office—greeting guests, answering phones, and responding to or redirecting emails from the kogodcareers@american.edu account.

  • Support students to make and check in for appointments for students with Career Development staff and Peer Consultants.

  • Provide support for and troubleshoot student and employer issues in Handshake, Kogod’s job and internship platform.

  • Support with the Kogod Talent Network system.

  • Monitor and assess the Document Review process in KTN (assess, request feedback, and approve undergraduate resumes based on criteria).

  • Create alumni accounts.

  • Monitor the Kogod Talent Network email inbox for inbound requests.

  • Support basic troubleshooting and answer basic questions about what the system does.

  • Review and approve content such as blog posts and videos for UConnect (the career website platform).

  • Assist with content creation, social media support, and presentation development.

  • Support general office operations and administrative projects such as data entry, filing, copying, and maintaining shared spaces.

  • Provide backup assistance for event and space setup, including flipping the lounge for events or meetings.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 5 - 10 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $18.00 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Students pursuing an undergraduate degree - Kogod students preferred.

  • Ability to start position immediately.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Flexibility, initiative, and ability to multitask and work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Maturity and an elevated level of professionalism, especially as it relates to building and maintaining relationships with prospective and visiting employers.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • This position has a start date of May 11th, 2026.

  • All student employees will receive cross-training in front desk operations, event setup and support, and social media assistance. Flexibility to assist in these areas as needed is expected.

  • Attendance at a mandatory two-day training session at the end of August is required (exact dates to be confirmed).

  • Must be willing to sign and adhere to a Confidentiality Agreement to ensure the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information.

  • Ability and willingness to lift up to 25 lbs and assist with moving furniture and equipment during event setup and teardown.
