Job Summary

• Acquiring new profitable merchants (POS, SoftPOS, Digital Payment solutions, E-Commerce & Wallet), to manage and develop long-term profitable relationships while ensuring first class customer service and maximizing business opportunities to achieve key objectives and goals.
• Expand merchant acceptance across key segments (SMEs, corporates, online merchants).
• Increase transaction volumes, revenue, and market share.
• Retention of existing merchants and proper management of dormant merchants
• Responsible for proper monitoring of merchants’ turnover to ensure maximising our share wallet.
• Responsible for installation of POS terminals and rectifying level 2 technical issues, merchant training.
• Ensure proper risks and control management.
• Lead by example and to be a motivator for the Cards Merchant Representatives\Advisors as well as for the Cards Operations Support

Job Description

New Business Development

  • Recruit new profitable business for the different line of business namely: POS, MPOS, SoftPOS, Digital Payment solutions, Dynamic Currency, ERP Integration,  Till Integration, E-Commerce and Wallet.
  • Proactively create and develop business relationships with companies
  • Merchant lifecycle management and improve turn-around-time (TAT)
  • Build close working relationships with Corporate and Business Banking teams and other Group/external key business influencers to create business opportunities
  • Build close relationship with International Banking Relationship Managers to further develop our e-commerce portfolio of merchants.
  • Identification of cross sale opportunities and act upon leads with Corporate and

  • Implement activities to deliver value added products and services, generating increased income and revenue from existing accounts
  • Fully understand the workings of Absa Card and the pricing and risk strategy
  • Mastering merchant profitability model
  • Support implementation of new products by:
    • Engaging relevant stakeholders
    • Building a business case
    • Completing all local product testing
    • Closely monitoring local implementation
  • Continually review, analyse merchant segmentation basis and recommend suitable product activity to target and sustain viable segments in line with Consumer Function Strategy.
  • Partnership & Ecosystem Development to promote adoption of our range of digital payment solution.

Customer Contact

  • The role holder is responsible for managing and responding to merchant requirements on a face to face basis
  • Continuously monitor merchants’ turnover and take appropriate actions to ensure profitability.
  • Set up, install POS & Soft POS terminals and train merchants at their premises
  • Set up Ecommerce merchants and train merchants
  • Set up, Wallet and train merchants at their premises
  • Establish, build and maintain on-going relationships with merchants and their staff through regular visits to develop and protect business income
  • Develop a deep understanding of the needs and requirements of the merchant’s
  • Make sound commercial judgments to retain and fully develop customer base
  • Provide evidence of customer demands to influence new products, enhancement and solutions
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with management companies to develop further our e-commerce portfolio.
  • Build and operationalise a merchant feedback loop to improve satisfaction, reduce churn, and identify growth opportunities across the acquiring portfolio.

  • Responsible for developing a personal sales plan to achieve targeted objectives and goals
  • Personal time management of day to day activities to maximise return on resources
  • Keeping fully updated on customer activities as reported in the media and via internal Group sources
  • Maintain and understand the business environment in which the customer operates
  • Knowledge of the external environment (Legal/Regulatory/competitors)
  • Constantly update knowledge on all products and services offered by Absa card
  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa
  • Policies and Policy Standards. Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents)

Knowledge, Expertise and Experience

Knowledge:

  • Sound knowledge of the chargeback process
  • Knowledge of the different payment acceptance solutions provided by Absa Bank Mauritius Limited
  • Sound knowledge of the card payment industry

Qualifications/ Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in the card payment industry

Preferred:

  • Degree with minimum 4 years relevant experience or equivalent of 7 years bank related experience

Education

Higher Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
