The Opportunity

This position reports to the Manager – Canada Gas Accounting within the Canadian Natural Gas Pipeline (CNGP) Financial Services team.

As the successful candidate, you will lead and oversee the maintenance, analysis, and reporting of capital asset records for our Canadian natural gas pipeline systems, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and strong accounting governance.

What you’ll do

  • Provide subject-matter expertise in the practical application of capital accounting, serving as the primary point of contact for capital-related accounting matters across the business

  • Lead and oversee capital accounting activities in support of month-end and quarter-end close, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness

  • Review monthly rate base and forecast models, along with supporting schedules and analyses, to support regulatory filings, budgeting, and forecasting processes

  • Interpret, apply, and clearly communicate capital accounting policies, ensuring consistent application across projects and entities

  • Coordinate and oversee capital and lease accounting processes within PowerPlan, including data integrity, controls, and reconciliation activities. Contribute to the SAP+ project and any system upgrades

  • Coordinate responses to internal and external audit requests, regulatory inquiries, and other information requests, ensuring well-supported and timely responses

  • Proactively identify capital accounting issues, risks, or control gaps, and lead the resolution in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders

  • Identify, recommend, and execute process improvements to enhance efficiency, controls, and data quality within capital accounting processes

  • Develop and maintain clear documentation, playbooks, and training materials to support development, cross-training, onboarding and long‑term sustainability of the function

  • Partner closely with Operational Accounting, Project Controls, Regulatory, FP&A, and other stakeholders, strengthening collaboration and positioning the capital accounting team as a reliable, knowledgeable, and solutions-oriented function

  • Coach, develop, and supervise capital accountants, including reviewing work, providing technical guidance, setting priorities, and supporting performance and professional development

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline

  • CPA professional accounting designation or enrolled in the CPA certification program

  • 10 or more years or progressive related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, analysis and communication skills

  • Keen attention to detail, self-motivated and drive for continuous improvement

  • Ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines with multiple priorities and minimal supervision

  • Proven team player, successful in developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships

  • Experience working with PowerPlan and SAP

  • Knowledge of Rate Regulated and Capital Accounting and U.S. GAAP
