Canadian Fund Tax - Associate / Assistant Vice President

About the Role 

iCapital’s rapid expansion in the Canadian marketplace creates an opportunity for an experienced and talented tax professional to support its Canada expansion strategy in a newly created role within the Operations and Investment Product Management team. This role, along with team members, will service all Canadian access funds for tax compliance related matters.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with fund tax structuring discussion, coordinate with external tax providers and internal teams to ensure structuring material is well documented and accurately maintained.
  • Responsible for registration and account opening for income, sales tax and non-resident account with the CRA and Revenue Quebec for the feeder funds, maintaining the tax accounts, and handling correspondence with the revenue agencies on these matters.
  • Coordinate closely with Fund Administrator and Fund Finance teams to streamline the payment process.
  • Manage the mail tax notices including sorting, scanning, and logging in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Proactively communicate updates and feedback on the status of tax notices and correspond with the CRA with the assistance of external tax advisors.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external service providers to ensure tax slips are posted on platforms successfully.
  • Coordinate the tracking and retrieval of tax documents, including but not limited to tax estimates, K-1s, and all tax documents for our third-party preparers.
  • Assist the external tax service provider in collecting information for Canadian income and sales tax return filings, as well as investor reach out for provincial allocation percentage for sales tax.
  • Create and maintain investment portal access for portfolio investments across multiple funds.
  • Manage mail including returned mails and other tax related mail correspondence.
  • Monitor tax email distribution lists and email boxes to ensure timely responses to inquiries.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience interacting with the CRA is preferred
  • Willingness to learn new topics and work in an evolving business environment
  • Work effectively with cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated Excel skills
  • Comfortable learning new systems and technology
  • Organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with ability to see the big picture

The base salary range for this role is between CAD 80,000 to CAD 110,000.  iCapital offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes a competitive total compensation package consisting of salary, bonus, and equity for all full-time employees.   The Company pays 100% of the premium for all Group Benefits for you and your dependents.  Some of these benefits include medical, dental, vision, prescription, life insurance and long-term disability.  We offer a variety of Retirement Plans which have a company match.   We offer unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO) and most employees the flexibility to work in the office three to four days and remotely for the remainder of the week.  Every department has different needs, and some positions will be designated in-office jobs, based on their function.
