This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes. The Associate, Instrumentation & Calibration Technical Support (Science/Tech/Engineering Path), is primarily responsible for installing, calibrating, testing, and repairing instruments to ensure quality standards and support custom instrument design.
In this role, a typical day will include:
- Apply technical knowledge to perform tasks and support project goals effectively
- Install, calibrate, test, and repair instruments and technologies that monitor environmental conditions within a manufacturing facility
- Inspect and test the operation of instruments and devices such as oscilloscopes, calipers, pressure gauges, and temperature controllers to diagnose faults
- Install and maintain control and measurement instruments on plant equipment
- Test and measure heat, light, voltage, amperage, weight, vacuum, magnetic resistance, or various content measurements to ensure conformance with quality standards and controls
- Work with engineers to design and build custom instrument and control devices where required
- Follow procedures with some decision-making authority, requiring job-related training, attention to detail, and reliability
- Adhere to GxP regulations by strictly following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintaining accurate and complete documentation, ensuring rigorous quality control, and completing all required training
- Meet individual job requirements and contribute to the overall compliance of the organization
We are searching for a detail-orientated calibration technician to join our calibration department. In this role, you will be responsible for calibrations and basic repairs on highly specialized equipment. You will also be responsible for complete and accurate documentation of calibration activities, identifying faulty equipment and suggesting upgrades when necessary.
To be successful as a calibration technician, you should have a good eye for detail, excellent hand-eye coordination, and above-average troubleshooting skills. Ultimately a top-class calibration technician will work quickly and methodically to ensure equipment is safe for operation and calibrated to industry standards.
Calibration Technician Responsibilities:
- Calibrating equipment to industry standards: Assure that equipment is calibrated and maintained according to ISO, government, and safety regulations.
- Performing routine equipment maintenance.
- Troubleshooting equipment failures.
- Create, maintain, and execute calibration procedures for various instrumentation and equipment.
- Maintain calibration and repair schedules and monitor average lead-time.
- Coordinate calibration with external calibration vendors for instruments that can not be calibrated
- internally.
- Must work well in a team environment and must demonstrate excellent communication skills in the
- interaction with customers.
- Must demonstrate attention to detail and conscientiousness related to the quality of work.
- Self-directed and highly motivated.
- Good understanding of basic electrical and optical concepts
- Conducting equipment repairs.
- Responding to client queries.
- Suggesting equipment upgrades.
- Maintaining calibration equipment and supplies.
- Completing documentation related to calibrations.
- Resolve calibration issues with accuracy of measurement and compliance with specifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
- 3 Years of Relevant Experience
- Location: Onsite Johns Creek, GA
- Schedule: Monday-Friday 6:30am-2:30pm
- Travel Requirements: 0 – 10%

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
- Relevant industry certification or formal training in Metrology, such as the Precision Measurement Equipment Course (PMEL) or TMDE gained through the military is highly desirable and/or, preferably in a technical discipline specific to calibration and instrumentation.
- Detailed experience with quality management systems (ISO-17025, ISO-9001, etc) highly desirable.
- Extensive experience with equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to stand, crouch, and kneel for extended periods.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Competency with calibration software and databases.
- Capable of lifting (40 pounds).
