As a barista, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality coffee and beverages, providing warm and friendly customer service, and helping maintain a clean and welcoming café environment. The ideal candidate is reliable, positive, and community-minded, with strong all-round skills. Duties include opening and closing the café, light administration tasks, and general support across service. Light food preparation and basic baking skills are highly regarded.

The role you could play

We are on the lookout for a dedicated and enthusiastic Cafe Barista to join our team. As a key player in our café, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional barista coffees and beverages, ensuring each customer receives a delightful and timely experience.

Working closely with our Cafe Manager and a group of passionate volunteers, you will contribute to creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that keeps our customers coming back for more. Your key responsibilities

  • Ensure customers feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service always

  • Prepare foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods as the Café Manager requires

  • Grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea, and serving items to customers – ensuring consistency in high quality offerings to customers

  • Understand brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality

  • Implement and complete recruitment and selection processes in a timely manner

  • Train and develop volunteers in all aspects of the café including cleaning, food preparation, beverage preparation, money transactions (register) and customer service

  • Ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained (milk, coffee beans, etc)

  • Clean and restock work and dining areas, emptying trash, and sanitising equipment and utensils

  • Ensure all equipment is kept clean and maintained in excellent working condition

This is a max-term (12 months from start date) part-time (19 hours per week) position located in Morley, WA. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020, Level 3.

You will bring

  • Experience as a Barista, with food handling

  • Experience of Safe Food Handling

  • Knowledge of legislated requirements under the Food and Beverages Act

  • A National Criminal History Check is required

  • Ongoing training as requested by the Corps Officer and/or Café Manager
