The Opportunity
This position works out of our Gretna, LA, Richmond, VA, Lake Forest, IL, Abbott Park, IL location in the Toxicology, Diagnostics Division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision-making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.
The Buyer – (Procurement) while working independently, purchases raw materials, sub-assemblies, products and services in conformance with approved purchase orders at the lowest cost consistent with considerations for quality, reliability of source and urgency of need. Provides support for all basic aspects of purchasing including but not limited to vendor negotiations, vendor analysis, cost reductions, utilization of the purchasing system, expedition of orders and vendor relations
What You’ll Work On
Negotiate long‑term supplier contracts and manage key vendor relationships to secure optimal quality, cost, and availability.
Plan and schedule material deliveries using forecasting and cross‑functional coordination to support production demands.
Review purchase requisitions, analyze quotes, and collaborate with vendors to ensure accurate pricing, availability, and delivery timelines.
Drive process improvements by partnering with functional leaders, supporting R&D initiatives, and helping bring new products to market.
Monitor supplier performance, lead corrective actions with SQE, and maintain supplier databases to support continuous improvement.
Serve as a purchasing subject matter expert, providing guidance to internal teams and mentoring junior buyers.
Lead special projects, generate complex reports for proactive planning, and support compliance with QMS, EMS, FDA, and company policies.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree Business, Supply Chain or related, an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Minimum 5 years progressively responsible experience in purchasing/commodity management. Working with purchasing/commodity management software.
Experience negotiating terms purchasing agreements.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 3 years working in a highly regulated environment preferred.
Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization. Strong organizational skills
Ability to travel approximately 25%.

The base pay for this position is
$78,000.00 – $156,000.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
