POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Buyer manages product categories with an emphasis on Watches and Personalized Jewelry for KAY Jewelers and KAY Outlet.  This role is responsible for end‑to‑end assortment strategy across the KAY retail channel, including branded watches, exclusive collaborations, and customizable jewelry programs, while balancing innovation, operational complexity, and profitability.  The Buyer drives growth through strategic sourcing, vendor partnerships, and customer‑centric personalization initiatives tailored to the unique customer needs of full‑price and outlet environments.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develop, select, test, price and acquisition of quality merchandise consistent with consumer demand, and in keeping with strategic department goals and policies.   
Maintain expert-level knowledge of watch industry trends, personalization technologies (engraving methods, lead-time capabilities), material sourcing, and competitive market strategies.
Ability to adjust quickly, if needed, to changing market trends and conditions. 
Develop new product concepts/brands for test market(s), with potential for expanded store roll out. 
Partner closely with Marketing, Visual Merchandising, and E‑Commerce, to promote core watch collections, personalization programs, and key gifting moments (holidays, anniversaries).
Own the presentation and justification of catalog, promotional, and personalization programs to Merchandise Directors and Vice Presidents.
Analyze weekly business results and optimize assortment mix, pricing, and promotional strategies accordingly.
Participate in the development of financial plans and advertising/marketing plans for designated product categories.
Co-manage Open-to-Buy (OTB) with Inventory Analysts, ensuring appropriate investment and update as needed.
Lead Lifecycle Management from concept through clearance, ensuring accurate forecasting of personalized SKUs with longer or variable lead times.
Negotiate vendor agreements, including direct import, quality standards, service SLAs, and compliance requirements.
Manage vendor performance related to production timelines, quality control, engraving accuracy, and on-time delivery.
Play key leadership role in broader team training and development.

Mentor and develop direct report(s), fostering category expertise in watches and custom jewelry programs.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising or related field preferred
5+ years’ experience prior buying experience
Ability to travel both nationally to attend trade shows, vendor appointments and to view markets.  Occasional weekend travel as needed.
Computer skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), negotiation skills, attention to detail and accuracy, organizational skills, and math skills (ability to work with numbers and analyze data). 
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently as well as a team.
