Position Overview
We are seeking a purchasing professional to join our team at our Elgin site. In this role, you will manage the end-to-end ordering process—from inquiry to invoice clarification—and ensure supply continuity and on-time delivery of assigned commodities. As a key member of the Flender Corporation Procurement Organization, you will be responsible for order placement according to demand, and for planning and expediting components from the supply base. This position requires collaboration across departments to resolve issues related to quality, accounts payable, inventory, freight, and more. The Buyer reports to the Purchasing Manager.

Responsibilities
Key operational responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing material requirements planning (MRP) for purchased materials
  • Creating and following up on purchase order acknowledgements
  • Scheduling purchased materials for optimal delivery performance, cost, quality, and inventory levels
  • Coordinating solutions to quality-related issues
  • Implementing sourcing strategies from the Commodity Management team
  • Executing demand and engineering changes in a timely manner
  • Maintaining accurate and current information in the ERP system
  • Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships
  • Resolving accounts payable discrepancies
  • Sharing and applying procurement best practices
  • Collaborating closely with internal and external cross-functional teams, including suppliers, strategic purchasing, production planning, warehouse, and quality

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or a related field
  • 2+ years of progressive purchasing experience for direct materials in a manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years of ASCM/APICS MRP & inventory management experience
  • Proficiency in SAP, particularly the MM module
  • Strong independent work ethic, negotiation skills, and communication abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Customer-focused mindset
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Effective team player
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and other quality standards
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to visit suppliers
