Airgas is seeking a highly skilled and innovative BPI AI Prompt Engineer to join our Hardgoods Supply Chain team. In this role, you will act as the crucial bridge between human intent and artificial intelligence, specifically focused on optimizing our end-to-end supply chain operations. We are looking for an expert who deeply understands the capabilities, nuances, and limitations of modern Large Language Models (LLMs), cognitive, and agentic AI tools.

Your primary mission will be to design, test, and refine complex prompts to generate highly accurate, clear, and actionable outputs that solve real supply chain challenges—from demand planning and inventory management to logistics and vendor relations.

The AI Prompt Engineer is responsible for using AI to collect, analyze, and interpret large data sets to identify trends, patterns, and provide key business insights. Perform data mining, cleaning, and aggregation processes to prepare data, implement data models, conduct analysis, and develop AI databases.

Develop insights from multiple structured and unstructured data sources using AI Prompting techniques and tools. Maintain continuous collaboration with teams to understand the underlying purpose, focus, and objective of each data analysis project to ensure alignment and support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supply Chain Prompt: Design, test, and iteratively refine prompts across various AI platforms (mainly Gemini, NotebookLM) at a rapid execution pace to tackle specific supply chain use cases

  • Develop AI workflows and prompts to rapidly extract key terms, pricing structures, compliance metrics, and potential risks from contracts

  • Continuously assess the evolving landscape of AI tools. Understand and map out what current AI models can and cannot do, applying this knowledge to specific supply chain pain points like mitigating stockouts or analyzing freight spend.

  • Collaborate with product management, logistics, and planning teams to identify bottlenecks.

  • Help integrate AI-driven solutions into daily workflows and core supply chain systems (ERP, WMS, TMS) to improve operational efficiency.

  • Monitor AI outputs for accuracy, bias, and hallucinations. Implement guardrails and refined prompting techniques to ensure factual integrity, especially when dealing with critical inventory data or supplier communications.

  • Act as the internal Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Hardgoods Supply Chain division. Develop best-practice guides, prompt libraries tailored to buyers and planners, and lead training sessions to upskill staff on AI literacy.

  • Work alongside technical teams to help integrate well-crafted prompts into automated supply chain workflows via APIs (e.g., automating responses to routine vendor inquiries or generating daily shipping manifests).
