The DHLRI Business Operations Specialist is responsible for the reporting and support of DHLRI Earnings Operations as it relates to the strategic planning process, business operations and project management. Earnings Operations are expensed through resale and direct pass through of goods and services and require a high level of expertise and compliance oversight.
The Business Operations Specialist plays a critical role advising the DHLRI Director to ensure the effective delivery, financial integrity, and long-term sustainability of Core operations that support externally funded or specialized university research initiatives. This includes general oversight of day-to-day business functions, financial monitoring, compliance, and due diligence for equipment procurement and maintenance.
Monitors operations of the research earnings units, as performed by Core Managers and coordinating team members, ensuring consistent support for research and training programs across departments. Ensures standard operating procedures are aligned with the Business and Finance Office, providing for efficiency, compliance, and responsiveness to stakeholder needs. Monitors and evaluates service delivery to ensure high-quality and specialized support is provided to researchers and the university community. Works with the DHLRI Director, and other leadership that may be required, on budget presentations, financial planning, and forecasting for earnings operations. Works with the DHLRI Director to ensure proper allocation and stewardship of funds, including cost recovery models, internal recharge rates review, and compliance with university and sponsor policies. Reconciles financial transactions, reports, and reconciliations as needed. Facilitates the creation of additional Earnings Operations, in concert with the University Business and Finance Office, as may be needed. Inform, as requested by the DHLRI Director, growth opportunities for research services and potential funding mechanisms. Makes suggestions for initiatives to improve service delivery, cost recovery, and alignment with the university’s research mission. Evaluates operational performance to relay to the DHLRI Director and/or make data-informed suggestions to improve services and efficiencies. Oversees procurement processes for specialized equipment and supplies required to support research services. Ensures equipment purchases align with strategic goals and funding guidelines. Coordinates with central procurement, compliance, and asset management offices to ensure transparency and accountability.
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Required Qualifications
2 years of research lab mechanism experience required. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. A desire for familiarity with enterprise systems that can include Workday, Microsoft Office Platforms and iLab.
