The Business Manager in the School of Veterinary Medicine (LSU Vet Med) reports to the Director of the Business Office and manages day-to-day financial, accounting, and business operations for Vet Med. This role provides oversight of financial administration, cost center management, procurement, and accounting functions while supervising professional level coordinators. The Business Manager is responsible for maintaining fiscal integrity by monitoring budgets, reviewing expenditures, and ensuring compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and procedures. The position serves as a resource for financial guidance and funds management and acts as a point of contact for procurement policies and processes through the Purchasing Agent Certification program.
Job Responsibilities:
20%- Manage and reconcile financial ledgers including state, foundation, and other funding sources
-Prepare, monitor, and analyze budgets, financial reports, and business plans
-Conduct financial analysis to identify risks, trends, and opportunities
-Process accounting transactions including journals, allocations, payroll accounting adjustments, and deposits
-Support onboarding and financial setup for personnel and operational initiatives
-Ensure compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and financial regulations
20%- Cost Center and Transaction Management:
-Review, process, and approve transactions through Workday, including purchase orders, travel, expense reports, and accounting journals
-Oversee deposit processing and reconciliation using CARD or similar systems
-Monitor LaCarte activity, run reconciliation reports, and ensure timely resolution of outstanding transactions
-Coordinate with Vet Med departments and campus partners to resolve financial discrepancies, transactional issues, and identify solutions
20%- Procurement and Purchasing Oversight:
-Serve as Purchasing Agent for LSU Vet Med and maintain required certifications
-Oversee purchasing and supply chain activities including quotes, specifications, documentation, and bid-required purchases
-Process purchase orders, change orders, and invoice payments in accordance with policy
-Provide guidance on procurement policies and procedures
-Supervise purchasing activities handled by assigned staff
20%- Supervision and Team Leadership:
-Supervise assigned Vet Med business office staff and oversee day-to-day workflow
-Establish expectations, timelines, and best practices for financial operations
-Provide training, coaching, and professional development support
-Review and approve work completed by staff to ensure accuracy and compliance
-Promote consistent processes and continuous improvement within business operations
-Create Standard Operating Procedures and training guides for Vet Med Business Office staff.
15%- Operational Support and Collaboration:
-Support the Director of Business Operations with operational and financial initiatives as assigned
-Serve as a liaison between business operations and internal stakeholders
-Participate in meetings with Director of Business Operations and Asssitant Dean for Finance and Administration
-Meet with Vet Med faculty, staff, and department heads and provide updates to financial guidance and updates as needed
-Assist with special projects, audits, and operational reviews
5%- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 3 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field; and experience in Business related higher education or complex organizational environments. Experience in accounting, financial tracking and analysis, payroll processing, or banking. Experience with Workday system. Previous supervisory experience.
Special and Physical Qualifications:
Operation Essential Personnel - This position may be asked to work during an official closure, but who is otherwise not required to report to the physical campus during a closure and whose absence does not present a risk to the safety, resources, and well-being of the campus per FASOP HR-01.
Cash Handling - This position has access to/directly handles cash. Financial history/credit check required per FASOP HR-04.
Requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching (above shoulder), reaching (below shoulder), vision (near sight), vision (far sight) and lifting less than 50 pounds.
