Job Description

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Consumer & Business Banking (CBB) is the senior finance leader and strategic partner to the CBB business, accountable for financial stewardship, strategic insight, enterprise value creation, and executive decision support. The role ensures disciplined financial management while shaping forward‑looking strategy, balancing growth, risk, capital, and customer outcomes in alignment with enterprise priorities.

This leader translates complex financial, balance‑sheet, and performance dynamics into clear executive insights, enabling confident decision‑making that sustains earnings durability, regulatory credibility, and long‑term franchise value.

Core Responsibilities

Financial Stewardship & Credibility

  • Serve as the primary steward of CBB financial integrity, ensuring accurate results, disciplined forecasting, and regulatory credibility across performance reporting, outlooks, and capital decisions.
  • Balance growth objectives with strong risk discipline, control standards, and earnings durability.

Strategic Insight & Foresight

  • Transform financial data, consumer and business banking economics, and external market signals into forward‑looking insights that inform strategy, investment priorities, and operating decisions.
  • Anticipate trade‑offs across pricing, credit risk, funding, and portfolio mix to support sustainable performance.

Executive Translation & Influence

  • Synthesize complex financial, risk, and performance information into clear, compelling narratives for senior leaders, enabling confident decision‑making that aligns with enterprise priorities.

Enterprise Value & Trade‑Off Leadership

  • Partner with the business to frame and influence decisions on capital deployment, cost structure, and balance‑sheet usage.
  • Explicitly articulate risk‑return trade‑offs and opportunity costs across the enterprise.

Operating Model & Capability Leadership

  • Lead simplification, standardization, and continuous improvement across finance processes to strengthen the core foundation while enabling insight, agility, and strategic partnership at scale.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • MBA and/or CPA (or equivalent professional credential) preferred.
  • Progressive leadership experience in finance, including accountability for financial stewardship, results accuracy, and performance credibility with senior leadership.
  • Hands-on experience leading planning, forecasting, and performance management, with strong working knowledge of financial statements and balance-sheet dynamics (including earnings durability and key drivers).
  • Proven ability to serve as a senior business partner to executive leaders—providing clear decision support on strategy, investment prioritization, expense/cost management, and resource trade-offs.
  • Experience supporting consumer banking and/or lending economics, including core revenue drivers, pricing, credit risk considerations, and portfolio mix.
  • Experience evaluating trade-offs across retail distribution and channels (branch and digital), credit portfolios, and funding structures, with an ability to translate implications into actionable executive recommendations.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $304,045.00 - $357,700.00
