Summary:
The Summer Business Intelligence Intern position is a temporary, developmental role designed to provide hands‑on exposure to business intelligence, data analysis, and reporting practices within a professional environment. Under close supervision, the intern will assist the BI team with report support, basic data analysis, documentation, and data quality tasks while learning foundational BI tools, data concepts, and organizational reporting standards.
This position is intended to support students pursuing degrees related to analytics, information systems, computer science, or business, and emphasizes learning, skill development, and mentorship.
Essential Duties and Functions: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist BI team members with the maintenance and testing of reports and dashboards.
- Perform basic data review and validation activities to support reporting accuracy.
- Run simple SQL queries or data extracts under guidance to support analysis needs.
- Help document report logic, data definitions, and standard BI processes.
- Shadow senior analysts to observe requirements gathering and report development practices.
- Support ad‑hoc data and reporting requests as assigned.
- Follow established BI standards, documentation practices, and data governance guidelines.
Development and Learning Expectations: include the following.
- Gain exposure to Business Intelligence concepts, tools, and workflows.
- Learn basic SQL, reporting techniques, and data validation practices.
- Develop an understanding of organizational data sources and business processes.
- Participate in mentoring, training sessions, and team meetings.
- Receive feedback from BI team members and demonstrate growth over the internship period.
- Build professional communication and collaboration skills in a corporate setting.

Required
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Science, or a related field.
- Basic familiarity with data, analytics, or reporting concepts through coursework or projects.
- Ability and willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
- Strong attention to detail and a positive learning mindset.
- Ability to work a defined summer internship schedule.
Preferred
- Exposure to SQL, databases, or analytics coursework.
- Classroom or project experience using BI or data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Interest in pursuing a career in Business Intelligence or analytics.
Physical Requirements Necessary on a Regular Basis
- Manual dexterity, arm and upper body range of motion sufficient for use of a keyboard, mouse and telephone 7-8 hours per day.
- Speech and hearing sufficient for in-person and telephone communication 7-8 hours per day.
- Vision sufficient for use of a computer monitor.
- Sedentary position. Ability to sit at a desk 7-8 hours per day.
- Repetitive motion.
- Workers are not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
- Lifting and/or carrying (<10 lbs.)
- Manipulate small and/or large bulky objects.
- Standing, reaching, kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling may be required.
