We use best-in-class machine learning techniques and continuously test outcomes to simplify product discovery for pet parents looking for their pet needs on Chewy.com. Our outstanding multi-disciplinary team of data scientists, business intelligence engineers, software engineers, and product managers work together to power personalized recommendations and product discovery for pet parents. Our team has single-threaded ownership of the space, allowing us to build impactful products that we can experiment, measure with metrics, and deliver at a fast pace.

We are hiring a BI Engineer II for our Discovery team in Bellevue, WA. In this position, you will help us build scalable, robust analytics solutions for product and conversational discovery experiences at Chewy. You will demonstrate a passion for delivering outstanding customer experience, experience building scalable data solutions, and bring communication skills that instill trust with your partners.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data models, dashboards, and analytics solutions to support decision-making across the Discovery team.
  • Leverage structured and unstructured data to uncover insights into customer behavior, chat interactions, and search/product discovery patterns.
  • Partner closely with Product, UX, and Data Science teams to shape hypotheses and evaluate experiments that improve the customer journey across chat and on-site experiences.
  • Translate complex data findings into clear, compelling narratives that drive stakeholder alignment and inform roadmap prioritization.
  • Develop real-time and batch data pipelines using best practices in data modeling, ETL/ELT, and warehousing!
  • Own the development and delivery of essential data and performance reporting for customer discovery and chat-based experiences.  
  • Produce documentation, dashboards, and reports that are accessible, maintainable, and actionable!

What You’ll Need

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience building automated data solutions for analytics, with a deep understanding of data modeling, SQL, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with Redshift, Snowflake, and S3 or similar data lakes.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating data into business/product planning, including defining and validating KPIs and user behavior metrics.
  • 3+ years of experience working with BI tools (Tableau preferred) to build intuitive dashboards and visual narratives.
  • 2+ years of experience coding in Python, R, or a similar language.
  • Proven ability to craft a data story—translating analytical insights into strategic recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, ambiguous environment with incomplete or messy data.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Bonus

  • Experience formulating and testing product or feature-level hypotheses in partnership with product teams.
  • Familiarity with Airflow, Streamlit, and/or other AWS ecosystem tools.
  • Background in statistical modeling or predictive analytics.
  • Experience with NLP, sentiment analysis, or conversational analytics (e.g., chatbots, virtual assistants, or conversation-level event modeling).

 

The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Exempt salary team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations. 

Base Salary Range
$113,000$180,500 USD
