Essential Job Duties
BambooHR is seeking a BI Engineer II to contribute to our Analytics Engineering function within the broader Data organization. This role is responsible for building production-grade data models and certified semantic datasets that power enterprise reporting and Power BI visualization frameworks.
This position operates within the Engineering individual contributor track and is benchmarked alongside Data Engineering roles of similar technical scope. The primary focus is engineering scalable, reliable analytical data assets while also delivering high-quality, performance-optimized visualization layers built on governed datasets.
You will:
Analytics Engineering & Data Modeling
- Design, build, and maintain production-ready dimensional data models (fact/dimension schemas) in the enterprise data warehouse.
- Develop version-controlled SQL transformation logic to convert raw data into analytics-ready, certified datasets.
- Implement testing, validation, and documentation standards to ensure model reliability and downstream trust.
- Optimize transformations and query structures for scalability, cost efficiency, and performance.
- Contribute to semantic layer design that standardizes business logic and KPI definitions across reporting systems.
BI Dataset & Visualization Engineering
- Build and manage certified Power BI datasets aligned to governed semantic models.
- Develop scalable, reusable visualization frameworks that support operational and executive reporting needs.
- Ensure dashboards are performant, maintainable, and aligned with standardized metric definitions.
- Optimize dataset refresh strategies, data model relationships, and calculation logic within Power BI.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance or accuracy issues across the BI stack.
Production Ownership & Collaboration
- Own assigned data domains from intake through production deployment and lifecycle optimization.
- Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data products rather than one-off reports.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering to ensure reliable upstream ingestion and transformation processes.
What You Need to Get the Job Done
- 2–4+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or BI Engineering in a modern cloud data warehouse environment.
- Strong SQL expertise with hands-on experience building dimensional models and transformation pipelines.
- Proficiency in Power BI dataset architecture and dashboard development, with emphasis on semantic modeling and performance optimization.
- Working knowledge of data warehouse architecture and data governance best practices.
- Experience building production-grade analytical datasets used for cross-functional reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Finance, Decision Science, or related quantitative field (or equivalent practical experience).
