Job Summary
The Business Development Specialist is responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing relationships with key stakeholders across the healthcare market - including regional hospitals, community businesses, brokers, and other partners. This position supports service line growth, improves care coordination, and increases organizational visibility through strategic outreach, data-driven follow-up, and collaborative event planning. This dual-facing role is central to aligning internal priorities with external partnership development and community engagement efforts.

Job Specific Responsibilities
• Cultivate partnerships with hospital executives, emergency departments, transfer coordinators, brokers, payors, and community business leaders to strengthen engagement and drive service line growth.
• Act as the primary point of contact between UMC and external partners, representing the organization at meetings, events, and conferences, and facilitating physician-to-physician networking when needed.
• Assist leadership in planning and executing initiatives that increase service utilization, align with strategic goals, and enhance partner engagement across markets.
• Prepare, track, and distribute partner-facing materials such as newsletters, report cards, seminar announcements, and updates; maintain up-to-date contact and facility databases.
• Conduct timely follow-ups via calls, emails, and in-person visits, track progress, feedback, and outcomes from outreach efforts and stakeholder interactions.
• Coordinate referrals, appointments, and services to improve care access and patient experience; support transitions in care and assist in resolving access-related issues.
• Organize and manage regional events, partner site visits, and promotional seminars, including all logistics, materials, and collaboration with TTUHSC, Marketing, and internal teams.


Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in healthcare, marketing, business, public relations, or related field.
• +2 years of experience in relationship management, outreach, healthcare coordination, or business development.
OR
• +6 years of experience in relationship management, outreach, healthcare coordination, or business development.

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• N/A

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to navigate complex organizational environments and build cross-functional partnerships.
• Understanding of healthcare systems, referral processes, and service line marketing is a plus.
• Proficiency in data tracking, follow-up management, and CRM/database tools.
• Ability to travel regionally to partner facilities, community events, or client meetings.


Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
The Business Development Specialist may interact daily with the Executive Staff, Division Directors, Department Directors and the staff of multiple departments. In addition, the Business Development Specialist deals with external contacts, including but not limited to UMC Physicians and Texas Tech University Health Sciences.

Physical Capabilities
Must be able to travel frequently throughout the region.
Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds; position may involve walking, standing, or extended periods of sitting.
Standard work hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexibility for after-hours events or meetings.


Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to inside environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions, not necessarily from temperature changes.
