About the Role

Wellington Management currently manages approximately $1.3 trillion in assets globally. The Americas Institutional Group (AIG) is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager focused on the Western region of the U.S., a strategically important market for the firm. This role partners with Public Fund, Endowment and Foundation, Corporate, and Taft-Hartley clients and their consultants across the region, driving new business development and asset growth while serving as a strategic thought partner to existing and prospective clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute a regional business development strategy to drive asset growth across institutional clients and consultants in the Western U.S.
  • Originate, manage, and convert new business opportunities by aligning client needs with Wellington’s investment capabilities.
  • Build and deepen senior-level relationships with institutional allocators, investment staff, and consultants.
  • Represent Wellington’s long-term investment philosophy through a consultative, content-led approach.
  • Partner closely with internal Relationship Management, Consultant Relations, Product Management, and Portfolio Management teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality client and prospect coverage across the region.
  • Align client objectives with Wellington’s full range of investment capabilities across public and private markets, including both existing and customized solutions.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

The following essential skills are required for the role:

  • Proven track record of developing institutional client relationships and generating new business across equity, fixed income, and alternative strategies
  • Strategic, consultative approach with the ability to influence senior decision-makers and translate complex investment capabilities into client-relevant solutions
  • Strong collaborative skills and effectiveness in a matrixed environment, partnering across client, product, infrastructure, and investment teams
  • Intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and a growth mindset, with awareness of evolving market dynamics and client needs

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional qualifications and characteristics include:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience within the investment industry
  • Extensive leadership experience working with clients and related investment portfolios of institutional investors
  • Independence of thought, intellectual curiosity, and an entrepreneurial nature
  • Established credibility and commerciality with generating new business opportunities and managing relationships
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with ability to articulate and integrate numerous viewpoints and mobilize/influence across firm
  • Ability to navigate stressful situations with poise, focused on being a calming presence, active listener and pragmatic problem solver
  • Ability to travel with frequency
  • Ideally based in Wellington’s San Francisco office
  • Strong academic credentials: MBA and/or CFA/CAIA (or equivalent) preferred though not required
  • Series 7 and 63 licenses required

At Wellington Management, our approach to compensation is designed to help us attract, inspire and retain the best talent in our industry. We strive to pay employees fairly and competitively across all levels and roles. Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:

USD 120,000 - 225,000

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.   

 

Base salary is only one component of Wellington’s total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible.
