What you will be doing

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Business Development team, supporting growth across both Submarines and Civil Nuclear energy programmes. You will play a pivotal role in identifying and developing new business opportunities, shaping winning strategies, and engaging with senior stakeholders across government and industry.

You’ll be supported by multi-disciplinary teams, including Strategy, Customer, Government Relations, Technical, and Commercial functions, giving you the tools and insight to succeed. This role offers visibility, influence, and the chance to drive major national programmes, with excellent career development and exposure to complex, high-profile projects.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will lead the pursuit of new business opportunities across Submarines and Civil Nuclear energy programmes, working closely with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure strategies are well-informed and resourced. You will play a key role in shaping capture plans, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams, and driving opportunities from inception through to successful bids. You’ll also be:

  • Identifying and maturing new business opportunities, turning market and customer insights into actionable plans.

  • Developing capture strategies and leading multi-functional teams through the full business development lifecycle.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, government, and industry partners.

  • Driving winning proposals and bids, ensuring commercial, technical, and strategic alignment.

  • Collaborating with internal teams to ensure opportunities are fully supported and resourced for success.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Have proven experience in business development or bidding, ideally within Defence, Nuclear, or other complex engineering industries.

  • Be confident engaging directly with customers and building trusted, long-term relationships.

  • Be able to lead complex, cross-functional teams and influence across different levels.

  • Have a strategic mindset, with the ability to turn market insight into actionable business plans.

  • Ideally, bring technical understanding or experience working with government organisations, either in the UK or internationally.
