What’s the role
To support the delivery of the Europe, East & Derivatives (EED) Crude Trading teams' strategy within Shell Trading & Supply (T&S), with a particular focus on business development of crude oil length, shorts and logistics opportunities for the Asia Pacific region (including India and China). Shell Trading and Supply (T&S) aims to create an agile investment process to deploy capital into strategic equity and debt investments. These investments are intended to enhance the value of Shell T&S’s asset-backed trading portfolio by targeting sectors and regions that complement its existing portfolio or provide access to new trading activities to generate disproportionate portfolio trading value.
The role will align with the EED strategy to
"Defend" associated trading value with Shell Group assets per the EED business plan
"Enable" the optimisation of Shell assets, systems and expertise to provide better trading opportunities and
"Grow" the number of profitable barrels the trading teams can offtake or supply through both equity and third-party deals. The role will be carried out in proximity with the Trading desks, Regional Business Development (BD) Managers, Regional Team Leaders (RTLs), and VPs as well as the respective equivalents in other Commercial and Finance organisations within the Shell Group.
What you’ll be doing
Accountabilities:
Originate, evaluate, and deliver new equity and business development opportunities for Crude Trading aligned with the EED Trading desk strategy, including research and analysis of medium- to long-term investments in independent producers, refiners, and logistics companies, combined with long-term offtake, supply, and storage agreements.
Develop and manage strategic customer and partner relationships that complement those held by EED Trading desks and regional Business Development Managers, strengthening Shell’s commercial positioning and market access.
Design and deliver innovative commercial solutions that meet customer requirements and maximise the value of tradable options, while ensuring robust management of credit, price risk, HSSE, compliance, and Group reputation considerations.
Lead the negotiation of complex commercial agreements to maximise equity investment and trading value, including pricing, logistics and freight, operating and lifting flexibility, scheduling, quality, storage, and customer solutions across financing, hedging, and M&A, including deployment of T&S equity capital.
Project-manage new development opportunities end to end, leading cross-functional project teams to successful delivery; support governance and implementation with trading desks, contribute to wider BD initiatives, mentor junior team members, secure required corporate approvals, and collaborate across Shell businesses to realise full portfolio and trading value.
What you bring
Proven commercial experience in Business Development, M&A, and/or Structured Trade Finance, with the ability to develop innovative financial and commercial solutions in highly competitive and rapidly evolving market environments. Experience with working capital optimization, pre-financing structures, equity deployment, M&A transactions, and risk management solutions is essential.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively on cross-business and cross-functional initiatives, adopting an “Enterprise First” mindset. Strong organisational, influencing, and stakeholder management skills are required, along with the ability to operate autonomously, show initiative, and manage complex projects end to end.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work successfully across diverse cultures, personalities, and organisational levels. Proven experience engaging with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver value in Business Development projects. Willingness and flexibility to travel, including short-notice customer site visits, is a key requirement.
High level of intellectual curiosity and learning agility, with the ability to quickly develop credibility and a deep understanding of upstream, downstream, and trading activities within the region when engaging with senior internal stakeholders.
Resilient, tenacious, and results-oriented, with the ability to cope with ambiguity, setbacks, and outcomes beyond direct control, and to remain motivated.
