The Opportunity

Title: Business Development Director, Healthcare 

Location: UK

Position summary:

Iron Mountain is seeking an experienced Business Development Director, Healthcare to join our UKI Commercial team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing, pursuing, and closing strategic deals to accelerate Iron Mountain’s UK Healthcare Growth Strategy. You will be a key player in a high-impact team focused on transforming how the National Health Service (NHS) manages its critical information, moving from paper to digital and leveraging new technologies.

Role purpose

  • To develop, pursue and close strategic deals as part of Iron Mountain’s UK Healthcare Growth strategy.

  • Attract new revenues to Iron Mountain by engaging and influencing senior stakeholders at the Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC), NHS England (NHSE), Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) and Trusts to initiate regional records management consolidation programmes

  •  Engage with and influence senior stakeholders at NHS England (NHSE), Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) and Trusts to change and implement records management national policy with a view to establishing a national records management programme.

  • Shape national service models that support Trusts and ICSs to move from paper to digital.

  • Identify further opportunities to accelerate Iron Mountain’s UK Healthcare Growth Strategy across all lines of service by leveraging personal networks & relationships and using their NHS acumen, in particular with our DXP, Digital Pathology and DSARs solutions

Key Responsibilities

1. Commercial

  • Work with senior stakeholders at DHSC, NHSE, ICSs and Trusts to identify, pursue & close regional records management consolidation programmes. Provide leadership and NHS acumen in doing so.

  • Influence and lobby senior NHS leaders at DHSC, NHSE, ICS boards and elsewhere (inc NHS Scotland and NHS Wales) to shape national policy on records management & digitisation to create new strategic opportunities for Iron Mountain

  • Ensure Iron Mountain’s alignment with new legislative, strategic and long-term financial arrangements to enable the firm to optimally support the NHS’s direction of travel on records management and digitisation.

  • Engage with senior leaders and procurement teams across the NHS to position Iron Mountain well when bidding for & winning new NHS deals, securing long-term managed service agreements.

  • A secondary focus is to support the Iron Mountain UK Health team to identify further opportunities to partner with UK sales colleagues to sell Iron Mountain’s new products, in particular DXP, Digital Pathology and DSARs.

2. Technical

  • Provide technical medical records management advice to both customers and colleagues in the pursuit of new deals, particularly regarding the business change activities associated with moving to centralised RM management and records digitisation.

  • Working with the DBU Product Team to further develop DXP to provide a software suite that is valuable to all users of the scanned medical record and that can be incorporated into the service offered to the NHS, thus further embedding Iron Mountain within the NHS. 

  • Identify opportunities to further develop DXP by working collaboratively with commercial partners in order to provide a suite of software solutions which bridge gaps and support an end to end solution.

  • Innovation & Technology – develop and close opportunities to deploy Iron Mountain's AI-enabled scanning, indexing, and secure retrieval technologies to deliver efficiency and future-proof integration with EPRs, EDMs and shared care records.

  • Governance & Compliance: ensure all engagements comply with NHS information governance, ISO standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop NHS North West London into a reference site for Project Turbo and apply it to our sales and marketing activities

  • Programme Delivery: provide expert insights into Iron Mountain’s large NHS digitisation contracts (e.g. Lloyd George records, medical records, legacy archive conversion), ensuring our compliance with NHS standards (IG, GDPR, Caldicott).

3. People

  • Build trusted relationships with NHS CIOs, COOs, and Boards, influencing the adoption of Iron Mountain solutions across acute, community, mental health and primary care.

  • Provide coaching, networking introductions and SME support to UK Health sales colleagues in pursuit of developing new business.

  • Take a lead role in planning and delivering at relevant, high profile national Healthcare events such as HETT, Rewired and NHS Confed, for example by delivering presentations.

 

What you will bring

 

Essential Experience

  • Substantial and progressive experience in NHS records management, digital transformation and large-scale records digitisation.

  • Demonstrable experience of influencing national policy and engaging government stakeholders.

  • Proven leadership of multi-million-pound NHS contracts

  • Track record of delivering cost-saving and efficiency outcomes for NHS Trusts.

  • Business development or sales leadership in public-sector solutions.

 

Skills & Knowledge

  • Excellent personal network throughout the NHS, at national, regional and local level.

  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and risk in a commercial context.
