Our team is seeking a  Business Development Analyst to support our growing team!

What you’ll do here:

  • Build out potential strategic projects independently, ensuring alignment with strategic ambition and that there is clear consultation with the business.

  • Assess the strategic future direction of our portfolio mix to support consistent profitable performance and a sustainable and resilient result.

  • Alongside the SL Business Development executives, lead consulting projects with portfolios, business units, as well as executive team members, to support organic and inorganic growth and market benchmarking.

  • Support Canadian BD executives with current market dynamics and technical performance commentary on a monthly basis to generate opportunities and strategize under performance within the business

  • Monitor all of the company's activities that influence the business relationships of the firms on our Scorecard

  • Identify trends in the performance of the business unit and recommend actions to help improve the underwriting result.

  • Support the business from a strategy and planning perspective.

  • Represent your role and region on various regional and provincial committees and advise other areas of the company (Actuarial, Finance, HR, Marketing and other departments).

  • Contribute to the portfolio strategy preparation for individual classes of business

Function specific

  • Strong understanding of Commercial and Specialty Lines insurance (including internationally), and associated products and features.  

  • Strong understanding of market and economic dynamics, with the ability to articulate observed trends and craft operational actions for the business.

  • Strong knowledge of Portfolio Management and associated metrics, and ability to co-ordinate and drive action across the business.  

  • Will need a good network and interpersonal skills to support delivery of the role.

General

  • Able to challenge standard thinking, get to the root cause of an issue, and fostering an increasingly data led business.

  • Ability to balance competing priorities and timelines.

  • Proven research and analysis skills, both qualitative and quantitative and ability to generate robust insights.

  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships through the organisation and demonstrate good influencing skills to effectively execute and deliver on collaborative work.

  • Ability to tailor thinking, insights, initiatives, and ideas to different audiences, including internationally.

 

Decision Making and Authority Impact

  • This role will support the Business Development function to deliver outperformance, via operational plans and strategic portfolio optimisation, helping set the broader growth appetite, KPIs and framework within which the P&Ls will utilize and optimise/grow the portfolio – all within set frameworks.

  • This role will support the successful delivery of key strategic growth initiatives across Canada and advance cross-territory / IFC Group collaboration.

  • This role will seek out and own the analysis of external opportunities and risks to drive growth

  • This role will lead consulting to the business on portfolio-specific assignments


What you bring to the table:

  • University degree or college diploma in business, accounting, finance, economics, statistics or related field or any combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive actuarial or analytical experience in Insurance industry.

  • Expert knowledge of advanced Excel, PowerPoint, data visualization tools (like PowerBI, Tableau, Zoho etc) and other analytical tools.

  • Can influence business relationships to achieve business development and growth objectives.

  • Good management of the pressure to achieve objectives.

  • Very good knowledge of the SL business and insurance products.

  • Can work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strive for excellence and be inspired by the generating resources to achieve growth
