Overview:
The Business Development Advisor – MPC Portfolio Strategy will report to the Business Development Director and be based out of MPC's Findlay, Ohio campus. The Advisor role is responsible for leading and advancing medium to long-term business improvement strategies for a given focus area(s) or refinery value chain including the associated feedstocks acquisition and product placement as well as integration with the logistics business segments. Focus area assignment will be based on candidate’s background and experience. This position will gain broad exposure to senior leadership, technical subject matter experts as well as internal and external peers across all business segments.
Key Responsibilities:
Value Chain Strategist
Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for the overall competitiveness and long-term strategic vision of a given asset(s) and its associated marketing and logistics business segments
Creates and maintains readily available information housed in Strategic Playbooks and anticipates requests to support competitor assessments, macro supply/demand balances by market and product, and the performance of assets and business lines
Scenario Analyst
In alignment with strategic direction and anticipated regulatory and/or political environments, leads cross-organizational teams focused on maximizing long-term shareholder returns for their assigned focus area(s) which could include:
Expansion or repurposing of existing assets
Further integration or market expansion across the value chain via purchase or sale of complementary companies, assets, or lines of business
Conducts assessments of their assigned asset(s) and works with business partners to develop strategies for improving competitive positioning
Leverage digital solutions to monitor leading indicators for proactive responses
Investment Advisor
Leads evaluations and is the commercial SME for acquisitions, divestitures and joint venture opportunities in support of the overall M&A process within their assigned area of focus
Minimum Requirements:
Degree: Bachelors required; MBA preferred
Business or Engineering preferred
Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience
Refining, logistics, and commercial experience strongly preferred
Strong communication and collaboration skills required
Self-starter and comfortable challenging the status quo
