Are you an experienced banking professional with a strong IT and SOX background, who wants to make a real impact in strengthening non‑financial risk management?
At Bank Mendes Gans (BMG), part of ING, you will work at the intersection of business, IT, risk and audit, safeguarding the integrity of our processes and controls in a complex regulatory environment.

As a Business Control Specialist IV within the BMG 1st Line NFR team, you will act as a senior specialist and trusted sparring partner, helping the bank to operate safely, compliantly and in line with ING’s risk appetite.

Your role

You contribute to managing BMG’s risk and control environment by ensuring that key risks are identified and mitigated. You take ownership of SOX‑related topics and drive high‑quality execution across the organisation.

Your main responsibilities

  • Work closely together with Business Management to create awareness and ensure timely implementation of group policies and control standards, while limiting the impact on the business.
  • Monitor that the risk profile of BMG remains within its risk appetite by identifying and defining risks, implement and maintain risk & control logs, sharpening control design, coordinating/executing key control testing, tracking issues and events, reporting incidents and Key Risk Indicators.
  • Coordinate SOx activities as the SOX Coordinator, including scoping, risk assessments, identification of mitigating key controls, testing, and finally the SOx sign-off;
  • Strengthen the BMG related IT Application Controls (ITAC), in line with SOX and ING risk frameworks;
  • Act as first point of contact for internal and external auditors, ensuring smooth walkthroughs, testing, and remediation;
  • Coordinate and support the activities around ISAE 3402 reporting;
  • Proactively identify improvement opportunities that increase control quality, audit readiness, and efficiency;
  • Challenge and support stakeholders in a constructive and risk‑based manner

Your profile

You are a senior professional who is comfortable operating independently in a complex and changing environment and who combines strong technical knowledge with stakeholder management skills.

You have:

  • Solid understanding of ING Non‑Financial Risk procedures and SOX404 Content Binder
  • Demonstrated experience with SOX, covering design, testing, and remediation
  • Experience with risk management activities involving SOX IT General Controls
  • Strong hands‑on experience with design and testing of IT Application Controls within financial institutions
  • End-to-end experience acting as a 1LOD coordinator working closely with internal and external auditors,
  • Working experience with ISAE 3402 reports issuance
  • Practical working experience with iRisk
  • Has a risk-based mindset, knowledge of, and experience being part of 1LOD risk management in ING, directly driving 1LOD NFR activities such as control testing and issue resolution
  • Strong work ethic combined with a structured and disciplined approach, resulting in ‘getting things done’
  • Strong experience on leading, facilitating, and coordinating risk concerns involving several areas of expertise
  • High attention to detail, without losing the bigger picture
  • Able to challenge constructively and influence senior stakeholders while simultaneously driving progress

Relevant certifications in accounting and IT domain such as ACCA, CISA, CISM or similar are considered a strong advantage.
