Business Continuity Specialist

The Role

The Business Continuity role is a senior specialist role responsible for crisis coordination, strengthening business continuity governance, and enhancing operational resilience across the organisation. The role sits in the Operational Resilience & BCM function and reporting into the Senior Manager, providing the authority, experience, and strategic capability required to meet rising regulatory and client expectations.

The successful candidate will be required to operate a 7am–3pm shift which provides essential early‑day coverage to ensure rapid response, improved cross‑regional coordination, and stronger incident readiness during high‑risk operational windows.

In this role you will

  • Lead on Business Continuity Governance

  • Own and approve BIA and BCP updates, ensuring consistency and standards across all business units

  • Oversee BC/DR governance frameworks and ensure alignment with internal policy and regulatory expectations

  • Provide expert support and challenge to business units during BCP creation, review, and annual cycles

  • Coordinate responses to major incidents across technology, operations, and third‑party provider

  • Conduct rapid impact assessments and support senior decision‑making throughout incidents

  • Provide authoritative guidance, escalation management, and strategic communication during disruptions

  • Drive incident readiness improvements, including playbooks, triggers, and early‑hours monitoring

  • Lessons Learned & Root Cause Analysis

  • Lead structured post‑incident reviews and root‑cause analysis

  • Create and track remediation actions to prevent repeat incidents and improve operational maturity

  • Provide senior‑level communication, assurance, and decision support

  • Represent the BCM/OR function in committees, crisis calls, and readiness reviews

  • Strengthened alignment with the global BCM team by sharing updates, coordinating on group‑wide initiatives, and ensuring our UK/Europe approach remains consistent with global frameworks and methodologies

  • Strengthen recovery decision‑making during a critical part of the day

What it takes

  • Proven experience in incident management, business continuity management, or crisis leadership

  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive decision‑making under pressure

  • Strong understanding of BC governance, scenario testing, and incident response frameworks

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, especially under time‑critical conditions

  • High degree of judgement, leadership presence, and situational awareness

Special Factors 

  • This role requires early-day operational coverage meaning you will work 7am–3pm

  • Vanguard is not offering visa sponsorship for this position

  • This is a hybrid position and would require you to work in the office 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday)
