Business Banking Specialist

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT

The Business Banking Specialist (BBS) is a role designed for individuals seeking to begin a career in Commercial Lending. The BBS will support the growth and retention of small business relationships, focusing on businesses with annual revenues up to $2.5 million and lending needs up to $500,000. This role serves as a bridge between retail banking and commercial services, providing foundational experience in both business lending and deposit solutions.

The BBS will work closely with branch teams to identify and meet the financial needs of business members and prospects, offering VyStar’s suite of business products and services. The role includes assisting with loan applications, deposit account openings, and referring more complex relationships to senior business banking partners.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and deepen relationships with small business members and prospects.
  • Support branch teams in identifying business opportunities and executing business development strategies.
  • Assist in processing small business loan applications, including credit recommendations, documentation, and closing.
  • Open business deposit accounts (as needed) and support onboarding of new business members.
  • Conduct needs-based conversations to identify appropriate financial solutions.
  • Refer more complex business loans to Business Banker, Sr. Business Banker, or Commercial Banker.
  • Maintain accurate records of business development activities and member interactions.
  • Provide exceptional member service and support, resolving inquiries and issues professionally.
  • Participate in branch meetings, training sessions, and calling efforts to drive business growth.
  • Maintain working knowledge of VyStar’s business products, services, and credit policies.
  • Document business development activities, sales pipeline and calendar reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform other essential job-related duties as assigned by SVP of Commercial Services, VP of Commercial Sales, or AVP Commercial Sales Manager.
  • All employees and business units, as first line of defense, are expected to proactively help identify, assess, manage, and report risks within their domain of work. To enhance a healthy risk culture and support our growth for good pillar, employees will maintain vigilance in safeguarding our operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates. The Risk team serves as the second line of defense by providing risk oversight and credible challenge whereas the Audit team serves as the third line of defense by providing risk assurance.


Education


Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.


Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of branch or financial services sales experience.  May be able to substitute.
  • 1–2 years of experience working with small businesses in a retail banking or financial services environment preferred.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic understanding of small business credit and deposit products.
  • Familiarity with business and personal financial statements and tax returns, or an aptitude to learn.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and identify business opportunities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including branch schedules.
