Overview:
Responsible for providing the strategic direction and management and execution of key pillars in support of the model risk operation team, handling day-to-day operations and model inventory oversight in support of the MRM department. Ensures the efficient execution of the model risk management (MRM) program through implementation and management of complex, critical and highly visible workflows, project management initiatives, model metadata management, and reporting. Serves as a senior subject matter expert (SME) supporting the design, improvement, and operationalization of MRM processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for primary functions within model operations and controls.
- Perform complex analysis and judgment based work over a standard discipline or a range of disciplines to support business decisions.
- Perform highly complex data reviews, research, and/or reconciliations related to operational processes. Interpret results and present findings to influence strategic operational and tactical decisions within Model Risk Operations.
- Demonstrate a thorough and expert understanding of the business and its functions, processes and operations.
- Conduct enterprise-wide model inventory and attestation processes to ensure comprehensive, complete and accurate model inventory.
- Take a lead role developing and overseeing the implementation of procedures or controls related to compliance requirements within model risk operational processes.
- Define and participate in the achievement of short and long-term business objectives. Manage reporting for operational activities. Analyze variances trends and exceptions; report findings to leadership. Make recommendations on efficiency and costs improvements; and implement recommendations upon management approval.
- Take a lead role in supporting departmental audits including compliance testing.
- Manage and facilitate the planning, testing, and implementation of new projects initiatives, policy and regulatory changes impacting the department’s operations.
- Collaborate closely with Model Validation and Model Governance teams to ensure understanding and effective implementation and operationalization of the model risk management program.
- Provides coaching, direction and leadership to team members in order to achieve business results
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
- Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:
The position requires the ability to plan, organize and supervise work of staff and produce results; serve as a champion of change and innovative solutions; and has the ability to communicate a common vision to others. The position has significant uncertainty with discretionary solutions and heavy latitude. There is a high risk to the organization inherent in position. The incumbent must build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers/outside vendors in a manner that maximizes shareholder return.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:
May provide guidance to other analysts on the team
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 15 years’ higher education and relevant work experience.
Proficient in the use of personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and industry specific software.
Strong analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary for business partner relationships within and outside organization.
Detail oriented.
Self-motivated.
Education and Experience Preferred:
Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA)
Knowledge of pertinent bank systems such as governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) platforms, and business intelligence tools (Tableau, PowerBI).
Programming skills including Python and SQL for creating automated reports, tasks, and actions.
Familiarity with SR 11-7, SR 15-18, SOX, etc.
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $103,000.00 - $171,600.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
