Business Analyst – Transportation Specialist
Location: Saginaw, MI / Remote Hybrid

Position Purpose
The Business Analyst – Transportation Specialist plays a critical role in driving growth, efficiency, and operational excellence for Heritage Pool eCommerce customers. This role combines analytical expertise with hands‑on operational execution, focusing on customer onboarding, transportation management, freight program development, and continuous process improvement. The position analyzes sales trends to identify growth opportunities, ensures accurate integration of new accounts into Heritage IT systems, evaluates freight and promotional programs, supports pricing initiatives, and contributes to fulfillment invoicing accuracy—all while overseeing key transportation activities and improving daily execution.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Growth, Onboarding & Commercial Programs
- Analyze sales trends and customer behaviors to identify opportunities for growth.
- Lead eCommerce customer onboarding, ensuring accurate configuration and integration into Heritage IT systems.
- Optimize customer account setup, including banking, payment, tax, and freight policy rules.
- Develop and evaluate freight and promotional programs in partnership with Sales, Marketing, and Finance.
- Support pricing strategy development and ensure fulfillment invoicing accuracy and timeliness.
Freight Quoting, Execution & Communication
- Respond to LTL and Small Package quote requests within 15 minutes.
- Respond to Truckload quote requests within 24 hours.
- Schedule carrier pickups and communicate with dispatcher teams to ensure timely execution of logistics activities.
- Provide proactive shipment tracking updates to internal and external customers.
- Serve as the primary contact for all transportation‑related delivery exceptions.
- Identify gaps in carrier pickup scans to verify proof‑of‑pickup and on‑time movement; take corrective action as needed.
- Generate accurate bills of lading and shipping labels for inbound, outbound, and return shipments.
Transportation Pricing, Carrier Management & Program Development
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of transportation terminology, rating logic, and carrier pricing structures.
- Develop and maintain item‑based freight charge pricing systems for customers.
- Meet with carrier sales representatives and negotiate pricing on behalf of the organization.
- Oversee and execute the full carrier claims process.
- Design and implement a comprehensive nationwide freight program for small package and LTL shipments, aligning logistics strategies with organizational cost‑efficiency goals.
Sales Order Management & Systems
- Serve as an expert ERP user with complete understanding of route IDs, ship vias, freight terms, header costs, and sales order charges.
- Serve as an expert WMS user with strong knowledge of warehouse workflows and system data integrity.
- Act as internal power user for label‑creation and shipping systems; collaborate closely with IT to test, validate, and deploy business‑rule enhancements on schedule.
Data Analysis, Reporting & Documentation
- Analyze large datasets using advanced Excel capabilities (pivot tables, slicers, formulas, charts).
- Build dashboards and operational reports that support decision‑making and performance tracking.
- Document processes, SOPs, and workflows in clear, concise, and user‑friendly formats.
- Identify manual tasks and partner with cross‑functional teams to develop automation and process‑improvement strategies.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations across all transportation‑related functions.
- Maintain accurate process documentation and provide training to support regulatory compliance and operational safety.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or fulfillment analytics.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with BI or analytics tools is a plus.
- Proven experience negotiating with carriers and understanding freight rating structures.
- Hands‑on experience managing claims and resolving transportation exceptions.
- ERP and WMS power‑user level proficiency.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation of processes and procedures.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
- Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and EPA requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent experience).
Success Metrics
- Meeting SLA expectations for quote responses (15 minutes for LTL/Small Package; 24 hours for TL).
- Improvement in on‑time pickup rates and first‑scan performance.
- Reduced exception resolution cycle times.
- Achieving freight cost‑efficiency targets and pricing accuracy.
- Speed and accuracy of customer onboarding and first‑order success rates.
- Claims resolution efficiency and recovery rates.
- Increased automation, reduced manual tasks, and improved SOP utilization.
Travel Requirements
This position requires up to 20% travel to collaborate with stakeholders, assess logistics operations, support customer onboarding activities, and ensure smooth integration of customer initiatives.
Physical Requirements
This role is primarily office‑based and includes:
- Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or analyzing data.
- Communicating effectively through written and verbal channels.
- Occasional movement within the office to collaborate with team members.
- Lifting up to 10 pounds (e.g., documents, presentation materials, or small office equipment).
- Maintaining visual acuity for reviewing data on screens and printed documents.
