The Banking Department provides a range of banking and financial services to Australian Government departments and several overseas central banks and official institutions. The RBA plays a key role in the Australian payments industry, and the Banking Department is instrumental in providing payments that are critical to the Australian people.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced senior or Lead Business Analyst with strong industry expertise in payment processing and payment ecosystems. In this pivotal role, you will help lead the analysis and implementation of a crucial program that will transform Australia’s payment system. You will be performing impactful work that helps make a difference to the Australian people.

The position is permanent and full-time.

What you will do

  • Engage with business owners, SMEs and technical teams to elicit, interpret and document business requirements.
  • Lead the identification and mapping of end‑to‑end business processes, and operating workflows, ensuring clear visibility of how business activities flow across systems.
  • Timely identification and escalation of risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies.
  • Informal coaching and development of more junior Bas and assisting to drive the BA capability uplift across the section.
  • Assist the Delivery Manager and Product Owner to manage and prioritise the backlog.
  • Support and help drive agile ceremonies, including Release Planning, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Prioritisation, and Sprint Planning.
  • Translate and communicate business, strategic and technical information to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, collaborating closely to coordinate activities, manage expectations, and support successful delivery of outcomes.
  • Willingness and capability to collaborate within an Agile cross‑functional team environment, including undertaking responsibilities outside the primary discipline as required.
  • Actively champion continuous improvement practices to drive the team toward efficient delivery of high‑quality solutions.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to identify and mitigate risks and interdependencies impacting deliverables.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of business analysis practice, tools, and templates, and mentor senior analysts.

Your background

  • Proven experience as a senior or Lead Business Analyst, preferably within the banking or financial services industry and working with various levels of experienced Business Analysts.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to Agile methodologies and experience working within cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with NPP and/or BECS is highly desirable.

  • You will be based at Head Office.
