Business Analyst - Intern

Join Manulife as a Business Analyst intern and help turn data and business insights into real-world impact for our customers and partners. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, analyze performance, and support strategic initiatives that align with our mission to make decisions easier and lives better. This opportunity offers hands-on experience with modern analytics tools, exposure to financial services operations, and mentorship from industry professionals. By the end of the internship, you’ll build practical skills, a strong network, and a portfolio of projects that demonstrate measurable outcomes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Partner with stakeholders to gather, document, and validate business requirements for new features, process improvements, and reporting needs.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, performance gaps, and opportunities; translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Create process maps, user stories, and acceptance criteria; support backlog grooming and sprint planning with the product/technology teams.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and reports to track KPIs, operational metrics, and customer outcomes.
  • Assist with user acceptance testing (UAT), issue triage, and post-implementation reviews to ensure quality and value realization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Data/Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to synthesize complex information into clear narratives.
  • Experience (coursework or projects) with Excel/Google Sheets and at least one data/analytics tool (e.g., SQL, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the summer internship and collaborate in a hybrid or remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 0–1 years of internship, co-op, or project experience in business analysis, operations, or analytics.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and dashboarding tools (Tableau or Power BI), and familiarity with Python or R for data analysis.
  • Knowledge of Agile practices (Scrum/Kanban); experience writing user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Exposure to process improvement methodologies (Lean/Six Sigma) and basic understanding of financial services or insurance.
  • Demonstrated ability to present insights using data visualization and storytelling to influence decisions.
