What is a Business Analyst- Asset Strategy?

The Business Analyst supports the Gas and Electric Asset Strategy team by driving data-informed decision-making and performance tracking across asset classes. This role will focus on benchmarking, corporate KPIs, and department scorecards to support long-term planning and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience with utility operations, and the ability to collaborate across departments.
 

What does a Business Analyst – Asset Strategy do?

  • Develops and maintains department scorecards and dashboards to track performance against corporate KPIs and strategic objectives

  • Conducts benchmarking analyses comparing internal performance metrics to peer utilities

  • Assists in data gathering and validation to support asset strategy initiatives, including long-term planning, risk assessments, and investment prioritization

  • Collaborates across departments including Engineering, Operations, IT, and Finance to ensure alignment on data sources, performance metrics, and strategic priorities

  • Supports the development of presentations and reports for senior leadership

  • Assists in identifying and recommending process improvements

  • Helps translate complex data into actionable insights to guide asset management decisions

  • Recommends internal and external data procurement processes

  • Supports emergency storm restoration efforts

What does it take to be a Business Analyst – Asset Strategy?

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, STEM, or related field. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree in the aforementioned fields and 3+ years of business analyst experience. In lieu of an associates degree, a High School diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of business analyst experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly 

  • Outstanding analytic, problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Well-developed written/verbal communication skills, planning and organizational skills, and must be able to explain technical complexities to non-technical individuals

  • Must be able to adapt to a number and variety of assignments, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Must be able to work in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics or Data Analytics

  • Prior experience using Microsoft analysis tool package for statistical analysis

  • Significant experience performing data analysis on customer and/or operations related data

  • Familiarity with data gathering, data analysis and converting data into high value information for decision making

  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. Oracle, MS SQL, Access), database scripting (e.g. SQL, PL/SQL) and coding with Python for spatial analysis within ArcGIS

This position has a career path which allows for advancement opportunities within the Business Analyst job series. The title and level are commensurate with experience. Pay Range: $53,700 - $151,500
