The Building Systems Specialist is the primary technical expert responsible for ensuring our building control systems operate at peak efficiency, reliability, and comfort. This role focuses on our installed base of Siemens Apogee systems and will be instrumental in our planned transition to the Siemens Desigo platform. You will program, troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain the computerized systems that automatically control our facility's HVAC, lighting, and other critical building operations.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Responsible for Building Automation Systems (BAS) and control systems including HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), overseeing maintenance, configuration and system modifications.

·       Respond to and resolve Temperature, Humidity, and Pressure Control issues with a priority on classified clean room areas (Grades A, B, C, and D)

·       Respond to urgent facility issues outside regular hours as needed (e.g., HVAC failures, power outages, flooding).

·       Support day-to-day BAS operations, including alarm response, documentation, trend analysis, continuous improvement, and reporting system abnormalities to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

·       Coordinate with controls vendors for system tuning or troubleshooting.

·       Assist Building Supervisor in troubleshooting and maintaining critical utilities including, but not limited to, Boilers, Chillers, Compressors, Fire Suppression & Life Safety Systems.

·       Perform routine inspections and corrective actions according to established preventative maintenance program and schedule.

·       Support documentation and compliance during inspections/audits by regulatory agencies (e.g. TSSA, Health Canada, FDA).

·       Effectively manage workload and prioritize work to align with department and organizational objectives, adhering to defined targets and deadlines.

·       Support software changes and upgrades of Facility systems.

·       Manages small projects related to corrective action or equipment performance improvement as required

·       Provide coaching and training to team members as required.

·       Works in a safe manner collaborating as a team member to achieve all outcomes

Performs any other job-related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·       Direct and substantial experience operating and/or maintaining building automation systems in a pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical industry, or related industry

·       Hands-on experience with BAS platform

·       Technical competence in mechanical/electrical systems and facility infrastructure

·       Familiarity with Canadian building codes, local fire safety standards, and OSHA/OH&S requirements.

·       Strong knowledge of HVAC control systems and automation

·       Strong BAS programming and configuration skills

·       Working knowledge of BAS networking protocols

·       Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software

·       Demonstrated ability to make decisions, solve and trouble shoot problems based on analysis, experience and judgment

·       Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities to accomplish objectives and goals anticipating and adjusting for problems and interruptions/roadblocks.

·       Effective communication and cross-discipline collaboration skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • BS/BA in Science, Engineering or Software Programming

  • Minimum 5 years direct experience operating and/or maintaining building automation systems in a pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical industry, or related industry

  • Functional knowledge of documentation required for BAS systems and HVAC controls in cGMP environments

  • Experience with Siemens Apogee and Desigo BAS platforms

  • Good understanding of cGMP in the context of facilities support of regulated facility

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

·       Job requires shift work, weekends and occasional extended shifts and possible short notice schedule shift changes

Our target base pay hiring range for this position is $75,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year.
